Girls like Jackie Young, Tyasha Harris, Lindsey Corsaro, Ae’Rianna Harris, and Jayla Scaife headlined a top-heavy class. While the Class of 2023 might not have as much high-end talent, it could very well be a much deeper class in which many colleges of all levels throughout the Midwest find the key pieces to make them successful in the mid to late 2020s. Below is a look at five individuals who performed at a high level throughout their Freshmen seasons, yet who are somewhat unknown on a statewide level to this point. There were many more we could have chosen from, so it was tough to settle on just these five.

Andrean | 2023
State
IN
, 5-8 PG, Andrean H.S.
Tori is a traditional point guard who values the basketball, plays a pass-first role from the lead guard spot, and delivers the ball on time/on target. She has nice length, fluidity, and solid all-around athleticism. She’s also a nice perimeter shooter who can make open rhythm jumpers consistently. This season for Andrean, she acted as their starting point guard, helping lead them to the Regional round. Tori averaged 9.1 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.6 rebounds as a Varsity freshman.
Kaiden Harrington, 6-2 C, Edgewood H.S.
“Bigs” are typically late to develop their skillsets, but Kaiden still managed to contribute to Edgewood’s team early in her career. She has a long, wiry strong frame and the potential to develop into quite the post player. She is a nice athlete with some bounce, she pursues rebounds, and she’s a presence in the paint defensively. She is a volleyball kid, though, so I’m sure that will affect her basketball recruiting, but she did manage 7.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this season.

, 5-9 G, Evansville Memorial H.S.
I saw Emily for the first time back in the Fall, and I think she has a great deal of upside and the potential to become a Division-I guard. She has a wiry strong frame, she’s a really nice athlete in all directions, plus she is versatile skillfully. She can handle the ball and run offense at times, but she’s also a capable shooter and a very good scorer at all levels. This year, for a top-ranked Memorial team, she averaged 6.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in a very balanced attack.

Fort Wayne Wayne | 2023
State
IN
, 6-1 PF/C, Fort Wayne Wayne H.S.
Last July, at the Run 4 Roses Classic, Shabrea was playing in the 17U division as an 8th Grader, and she was holding her own. She is a big-bodied, powerful, yet still fairly athletic post prospect. She has some length, good hands, and she has a rugged toughness in the paint. She is a little rough around the edges at times, but she has such a dominant presence and great upside, that people better take notice of her soon. She averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks for a young Wayne team this season.

, 5-11 SF, Jay County H.S.
Renna’s older brother is about 6-8, so she could have a couple of inches left in her. She has a fairly long, athletic frame, and she runs the floor well North/South. She can handle the ball a little, she’s a nice shooter at all levels, and she has a quiet toughness and plays with some physicality. It took her a handful of games to get acclimated this season, but once she did, she finished at 15.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. She has already earned at least one MAC offer and other Division-I interest.
