Continue ReadingTexas is such a large state and there will always be players that I might not catch for a number of reasons however I started doing what I do years ago for that very reason, players were not being caught by basically anyone on the scale I did but ow social media has somewhat crowded the field between the legit and those who are being touted as this or that but my whole thing is seeing for myself so at this year’s She’s Ballin Showcase, I definitely caught some juniors I knew nothing about. I knew Bria McClure Bria McClure 5'6" | PG Steele | 2021 State TX (SA Finest) and Zoe Nelson Zoe Nelson 6'1" | PF Hendrickson | 2021 State TX (Austin Elite) were big-time D1 prospects, as well as Eriny Kindred Eriny Kindred 6'0" | SF Del Valle | 2021 State TX (MP Elite) but I’m always trying to find those sleepers like Amillion Fowler Amillion Fowler 5'9" | SF George Ranch | 2021 State TX (Houston Dream), Jazra Williams Jazra Williams 5'10" | SF Vista Ridge | 2021 State TX (Austin Elite) and Taliyah Johnson Taliyah Johnson 5'6" | PG Temple | 2021 State TX (Texas Supergirls) who jumped into the Top 100 for their class joining to others I mentioned. These young ladies sent me a message loud and clear and here they are
Portia Adams-Urban Heroes- powerful guard that attacks from everywhere and finishes strong after contact. Her first step coupled with her step back is very hard to handle as she left several players guessing and standing in their tracks. She also creates her shot under pressure and hit the stop and pop jumper consistently
Akasha Davis Akasha Davis 6'2" | PF Wylie East | 2021 State TX -Urban Heroes- size matters, especially when you can do the simple things like finish and finish with power which she does well. Good hands and nice moves around the basket, she also runs the floor after rebounds and this adds to her effectiveness but when you throw in “she battles for everything”, wow
Lanie Gooch- Urban Heroes-I wrote turbo and ups for a reason and that explosiveness, as well as her jumping ability, was among the best at the camp. She understands how to use her athleticism well on both ends, she showed that by getting to the basket in tight situations as well as what I love to see, played the passing lane
Angelique Morgan-Texas Supergirls-another guard that got to the basket basically whenever she wanted and under control as she zig-zagged through defenders effortlessly. One of her other strong points is she can make the pass going full speed and on the money yet she also brought plenty of heat on defense
A’Zariah Knotts-Texas Supergirls-guess what, she also found ways to get to the rim and she went in strongly from various angles but I also liked her setting defenders up and she used a variety of moves and fakes to get her shot off
Emri Lovell-SA Finest-size doesn’t matter, when you can play and when you mix in athleticism and body control, she showed that with numerous reverse layups but she also showed that she saw the floor and made the right passes, at the right time, on the money
Gabby Owens-Houston Dream-one of those “you won’t outwork me” players and her desire is contagious. She rebounds and finishes and can man-up baseline to baseline or battle in the paint but her effort just stays the same no matter what
