In O/T, the Tigers lost Caelyn Valandra-Prue, their 34-ppg floor leader to an ACL injury. The Tigers lost that game and two more before adjusting to their new roles. Maybe even reveling in their new roles.
Since then, White River is 8-1, without any seniors, losing only to Howard at Mitchell, and qualified for the SoDak 16 contest. Overcoming adversity, Coach Kristi Barnhart and her young players face the 2019 defending state champions DeSmet Thursday. In Mitchell. Great story! How does that happen?
Trinity White Hat, Remedy Morrison, Nicolle Yackley, and Lilly Krogman led the resurgence. All play tough defense and rebound well.
2021 Trinity White Hat (5’9) is selective and deadly from the perimeter. As a lefty, her smooth movement draws the defense and quick accurate passing often results.
2021 Remedy Morrison (5’7) is the point as well as the heart and soul driving the Tigers’ relentless energy, with rim runs, the no-holds-barred pursuit of rebounds, and a deft scoring flair of floaters and angles off the board.
2021 Nicole Yackley (5’8) harasses the outside spot-up shooters, probably since she does the deep three’s herself when open. Yackley is streaky but has a great mentality to stay in the scoring mindset.
2023 Lilly Krogman (5’10) is, after all, a “Krogman,” meaning she can, and does, put the ball in the net. Good foot speed and focus coupled with a high BB IQ makes her a top twenty choice in the PGH 2023 rankings. Potential is becoming reality in her performances.
Kristi Barhhart moved from Sully Buttes and assumed the coaching mantle, assisted by Tuffy Morrison. Team’s return to winning is their achievement.
2020 is not done, and betting against White River in any sport does not pay off.
The 2021 return of CVP brings great expectations to next season.
