Below is a list of players who stood out this season in the sophomore class. Each one of these players competes in the region of North Central Wisconsin.
Megan Alexander Megan Alexander 6'1" | C Freedom | 2022 State WI | Phillips | 5’8 G | Soph
The sophomore had an impressive season this year for Phillips. After a successful freshman season averaging 20 points per game there wasn’t much that Eggebrecht needed to improve on offense. But she did. She improved her shooting stroke, and ability to attack the basket. Her sophomore season she averaged 23.4 points per game. She became extremely confident beyond the arc and made over 55 three point baskets. She put up huge numbers the entire season. On two separate occasions this year, Eggebrecht scored 33 points for Phillips.
Lianna Baxter | Saint Thomas Aquinas | 6’1 F | Soph
The two year Varsity player gained a lot of confidence this season. She developed her game in multiple ways- while becoming one of those more dominant post players in her conference. This season she averaged 21.9 points per game. She’s a true post player with crafty moves on the block. Baxter uses her body well to find position. If she is left open on the perimeter, she will knock down the shot.
Jordyn Delegan | Mellen | G | Soph
The Mellen guard was an impact player this season. She plays at her own tempo and isn’t frazzled by touch pressure on defense. She pushes the ball in transition and attacks the paint. She’s a crafty finisher with a nice touch on the ball. This season, Delegan averaged 21.5 points per game. She was incredibly consistent this season, scoring over 25 points in multiple games. Delegan scored her season-high 29 points twice during her sophomore campaign.
Valarie Cerveny | Gresham Community | F | Soph
The forward led her team this season with 15.5 points per game. One of the more athletic forwards in the Central Wisconsin- North conference, Cerveny just has a great feel for the game. She’s poised underneath the basket and has a great shot selection. The forward has a great mid range shot as well. Cerveny does a great job outside the arc, taking per time before shooting. She made 26 three point baskets this season. In a game against Rosholt, Cerveny scored a season-high 30 points.
Taylor Martin | Port Edwards | CG | Soph
Martin is an incredibly versatile player for her team. She does all things right on both ends of the court. She’s a great defender who impacts the game with her stealing ability. However, Martin showed how impressive she could be on the offensive end this season. The combo guard averaged 15.5 points per game for Port Edwards. She has a lot of speed attacking the basket and is able to compose her body before contact. An outside shooting threat as well, Martin made 56 three point shots this season. In a game against New Lisbon, the Port Edwards standout scored a season-high 30 points for her team.
