Many freshmen have stood out this season for multiple reasons. I’ve highlighted some players that I believe have huge careers ahead of them with high ceilings to develop many aspects of their game.
Mya Hartjes | University School | G
A quick and scrappy guard that gets the job done. She has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor. She’s a great finisher at the rim, not letting her size stop her from attacking against taller defenders. This season she averaged 13.2 points per game. A versatile scorer, Hartjes’ offense could take over a game. She has a nice perimeter shot that could only become more consistent in the years to come. She’s a solid defender with quick hands. With fast footwork and a good feel for the game, Hartjes could easily develop into a defensive specialist.
Jazzy Davis Jazzy Davis 5'11" | PF La Crosse Logan | 2023 WI | La Crosse Logan | PF
A powerful forward who already plays with such presence in the paint. She’s crafty on offense and will add more crafty moves as she fights for a shot around taller defenders. This season she averaged 8.6 points per game. She’s super strong and will only continue to gain confidence underneath the basket. She’s a relentless rebounder, and uses her soft touch to finish high at the rim. She averaged 7.6 rebounds per game. Davis will develop into a better transition player as she starts to run the floor even better. Davis has great post defense and is athletic enough to guard multiple positions on the floor.
Alicia Burgos Alicia Burgos 6'2" | PF Dominican | 2023 State WI | Dominican | PF
Burgos is long and athletic, making her super efficient in transition action. This season she played with so much confidence and showed she has the ability to handle the ball. Burgos Schroeder plays with composure on offense and attacks well against contact. She’s a threat on both ends of the floor. Burgos Schroeder averaged 10.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for Dominican. This season she was a consistent force on defense, using her footwork well to get around players.
Kyla Dunaway | Kimberly | PF
The strong power forward is playing with a tough Kimberly squad full of talented prospects. It’s clear she will only become more effective while practicing against other talent players. She will continue to become faster on defense and be able to guard multiple spots on the floor. Kyla uses her size to grab boards over defenders. She is very long and lean which makes her a threat on both ends. She is likely to become one of the better shot blockers in her class. This season she ran the break well and was able to move well without the ball to find her shot. Kyla has a smooth shot mid range and will shoot outside if left open.
Sammi Beyer Sammi Beyer 5'7" | CG Appleton East | 2023 State WI | Appleton East | CG
Beyer plays alongside some of the top talent in the state as well. This season we watched her facilitate the offense and be a communicator on both ends of the floor. The scrappy guard plays composed when attacking the basket. She averaged 7.9 points per game for Appleton East. Her ceiling is high due to her clear feel for the game and her great shot selection. She knows when to attack the basket or distribute to her open teammates. She will develop into a floor general and a great distributor working with talented post players.
Emma Josie | Stevens Point | SG/PF
Josie moves so well without the ball. She joined a successful Stevens Point squad this season and played with so much confidence. She had the luxury of playing against some top talent and hopefully soaking up some of their skills. This season it seemed she knew her role on the team and perfected all the little things. She cuts hard to the basket and knows how to get open using screens. She averaged 6.9 points per game and 3.2 rebounds. A fierce rebounder inside, Josie keeps the ball high and finishes with power. Her consistent shooter who has a smooth release off the pass.
