Here’s a look at some of the players to watch in 2020-2021:
Arianna Berryhill, Bismarck Legacy
Berryhill will go into next year as one of the frontrunners for the Player-of-the-Year in the WDA. She was arguably the Sabers’ best player last year and will be in prime position to put up huge numbers in an effort to keep Bismarck Legacy among the elites in Class A. She’s a solid perimeter shooter, gets to the free throw line, makes plays for her teammates and can defend at a high level.
Payton Gerving, Bismarck
Gerving took a big step forward after playing sparing minutes as a freshman, averaging 10 points per game for a Bismarck team that was among the best in the state. If she takes that typical sophomore-to-junior leap, she’s got the potential to be one of the elite players in the league for the next two seasons.
Ella Falk, Jamestown
Falk was one of the best freshmen in the WDA last year, averaging 10 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists for a Jamestown team that, at its best, looked like a state tournament team. Similar to the rest of the team, Falk was inconsistent. She’s got the skills and talent to be one of the most dynamic players in the league the next three years though.
Ashton Kinnebrew, Bismarck Century
Kinnebrew was terrific as a junior for the Patriots and while she didn’t get the same kind of attention as a pair of her teammates, her numbers and efficiency were among the best in the state. She’s got good size on the wing, knocked down better than 40 percent of her 3-pointers, showcased terrific defense and has an overall game to be among the best players in the WDA next season.
Mariah Evenson, Minot
The Majettes were one of the surprise teams in Class A and Evenson’s production as a sophomore in the rotation was one of the reasons why. The 5-foot-8 wing averaged 8.5 points and shot better than 45 percent from the field. With Minot graduating a big chunk of its core, Evanson will have a big opportunity to showcase her skills on a larger volume the next two years.
