Frontcourt players typically don’t get the respect they deserve. The Louisville Area has some of the best frontcourt players in Kentucky regardless of class. Here are my top 5 Louisville Area frontcourt players going into the 2020-21 season.

[player_tooltip player_id="88414" first="Marissa" last="Gasaway"] - Eastern - 5’11" PF (#4 in 2021)

Marissa is not only the best frontcourt player in Louisville, she is the number one frontcourt player in Kentucky. She is an absolute beast down low. She also has skill away from the basket as well. As she continues to dominate scoring at the basket and racking up double digit rebounds game in and game out, she will be a force for every team on the Eastern schedule next season.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="88416" first="Tiarra" last="East"] - Butler - 5’10" PF (#5 in 2021)

Tiarra is the future of frontcourt players. She is definitely a presence around the basket, but Tiarra has the skills to bring the ball up the from from a rebound and run the fastbreak. Butler typically runs their offense through Tiarra and don’t look for that to change next season either.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="106144" first="Kennedy" last="Lee"] - Manual - 6’1" C (#5 in 2022)

Kennedy was a big riser in the latest rankings. Most of that was due to not only her offensive skills around the basket, but her rebounding and defensive presence that makes her a dominant force. Manual will be returning almost everyone for next season, so plan on Kennedy to become a household name to all teams in Kentucky.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="106153" first="Gracie" last="Merkle"] - Bullitt East - 6’5" C (#25 in 2022)

If you want size, then Gracie has the size and skill to become that dominant post player in the state of Kentucky. At 6’5", Gracie seemed unstoppable at times in the post. She has good hands and good footwork and a nice touch around the basketball. She uses her body well positioning in the post and does a great job rebounding on both ends. Bullitt East will lose several talented seniors, which will allow more playing time for Gracie which will lead to an increase to her scoring and rebounding stats.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="154511" first="Taylor" last="Price"] - Central - 5’11" PF (#59 in 2021)

Taylor is another athletic frontcourt player that can also do some damage from the outside. She connected on 31% from the 3pt line last season and also attacks the basket on the drive. She does most of her scoring around the basket and is also a 70% shooter from the free throw line. Taylor is an excellent rebounder, especially on the offensive end. She is a very versatile defender as well, able to guard multiple positions on the floor. A little more consistency this next season will move Taylor up in the rankings.

THE NEXT 5 (alphabetical order)

JaLa Douglas - Central - 6’0" PF (2023)

[player_tooltip player_id="106163" first="Tamesha" last="Dozier"] - Butler - 6’1" C (#37 in 2022)

[player_tooltip player_id="106156" first="Abigail" last="Embry"] - CAL - 5’9" PF (#59 in 2022)

Briontanay Marshall - Central - 6’0" C (unranked in 2022)

Mary Mathews - Holy Cross - 6’1" C (unranked in 2021)
