Prep Girls Hoops Kansas Scouting Report

The reason I started covering Texas basketball over 15 years ago is that I felt like most of the notoriety was going to mainly the coast, East and West, as well as the Northern states and the South, didn’t really get any credit, picture the hip hop feuds from back in the day just for theatrical purposes and I always say I base things off of what I see, I have no agenda whatsoever but much of what I say and have said goes over the heads of money but a prime example is #5 [player_tooltip player_id="66110" first="Deyona" last="Gaston"] who recently committed to Texas yet is nationally ranked at #90, trust me, there are not 89 players better than her yet the same person had my daughter ranked #207 at the guard spot as a freshman, she’s in the WNBA so go figure. What I do know is that I need to see a player as well as have contact information, it’s that simple and I’m sure there are players across the state I haven’t seen that could be slotted in yet with the NCAA Portal going full blast, the game has changed but here are my next 10 of UNCOMMITTED players   [player_tooltip player_id="136323" first="Tymberlin" last="Criswell"] (The Village) Current Rank #35 Criswell was forced into learning to play the one and she did a more than adequate job at helping lead her team to a TAPPS 6a Championship. Long and athletic, she attacks and finishes acrobatically, can shoot the mid to long-range and plays the passing lane quite well [player_tooltip player_id="97916" first="Amani" last="Bartlett"] (Houston Christian) Current Rank #36 Bartlett committed to Tennesse as an 8th grader, had a knee injury, changed her mind, and came back with a vengeance as she’s combined size, strength, and skill set to play multiple positions. She can handle the ball on the wing, hits the mid consistently and rebounds on both ends [player_tooltip player_id="136324" first="Vasana" last="Kearney"] (South Grand Prairie) Current Rank #37 Kearney showed some heat on defense when I caught her at the Spring Creek Mansfield Invitational and that just sealed it on what type of player she is. I knew she could shoot the long ball, had the step back, could attack and handle the ball under pressure but that baseline to baseline pressure... [player_tooltip player_id="136313" first="Da’Necia" last="Trusty"] (Hastings) Current Rank #38 Trusty keeps showing she’s a legitimate player you can TRUST that will fill many voids at the next level. She has the base I love, long and athletic, and her defense and rebounding were always there yet the offense around the basket, combined with her solid hands and footwork gives her an edge [player_tooltip player_id="97647" first="Zaria" last="Rufus"] (Duncanville) Current Rank #39 Rufus doesn’t need Chaka Khan but let me tell you something good, she played a huge part in the Pantherettes winning a UIL 6A State Championship and being named to the All-Tournament Team. She’s a silent assassin that fills in many blanks, scores, rebounds and defends [player_tooltip player_id="136325" first="Malaysia" last="DePrisco"] (Cedar Ridge) Current Rank #40 DePrisco is one of the best athletes in the state, I saw that as a freshman when her eagerness on defense caught my eye. Now she can handle the ball in the open court as well as attack the basket, finish with contact and hit the mid-range but she plays the passing lane [player_tooltip player_id="136326" first="Amaria" last="Fields"] (McKinney North) Current Rank #41 Fields can do a variety of things, quite well, and for the next level, that’s huge because she’s long, athletic, can score from outside and off the dribble, understands when to take the game over, rebounds on both ends of the court and just applies an abundance of pressure defensively [player_tooltip player_id="136327" first="Jaidah" last="Black"] (Boswell) Current Rank #42 Black is athletic, can attack from outside and finishes strong strongly after contact, that college-ready body plays a big part in that but she can also shoot it, from mid to long-range as well as rebound on both ends of the court. Good defender and has good timing to alter or block shots [player_tooltip player_id="136357" first="Tianna" last="Mathis"] (Rudder) Current Rank #43 Mathis has shown she can play all five positions in high school. at 5’9 and that’s big yet her desire and BB-IQ play a huge part in that. She can take defenders at will, score mid to long, sees the floor while handling the ball under pressure, going full speed, and defends to the end. Oh yeah, she’s a good rebounder [player_tooltip player_id="136329" first="Adaora" last="Nwokeji"] (Summer Creek) Current Rank #44 Nwokeji just brings it, every time you see her and falls into that "never takes a play off" type of player. She defends, plays passing lane and can handle the ball under pressure but two things, she attacks and finishes with contact, she creates her shot and can score mid to long and that energy is just overwhelming
