Their Sophomore seasons are, for all intents and purposes, over. In a normal world, we’d be a couple of weeks into their 16u AAU seasons. Unfortunately that’s not happening but we do have an entire high school season to use to move the rankings around. There was a little movement this time around and several new names on the list as we expanded out to 60 young ladies in the rankings. Here’s a look at the updated Top 10 for 2022.
[player_tooltip player_id="31885" first="Amiya" last="Jenkins"], Anderson County - A fierce competitor, Jenkins has established her hold on the top spot in the 2022 class. Jenkins averaged nearly 16 points per game and showed her versatility as she can score from anywhere and guard all 5 spots. Before the postponement, she had Anderson County into the Elite 8 at Rupp with a win over Franklin County.
[player_tooltip player_id="106132" first="Hallie" last="Langhi"], Marshall County - One of the best players in the class for a while now, Langhi averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the field. The next step in her game is to stretch her shooting and be a more consistent perimeter shooter as she was only 4/23 from deep this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="106131" first="Jaileyah" last="Cotton"], Bardstown - An injury limited her to 18 games but Cotton had a strong Sophomore campaign before that. Averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds per contest, Jaileyah should see a big increase in her scoring numbers if she can improve her shooting percentages, which were lackluster this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="31877" first="Patience" last="Laster"], Franklin County - The anchor in the middle for the 11th region champions, Laster is a low post bully knows how to use her body to bury defenders on the block and capable of scoring over either shoulder. 13 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field is impressive. Patience is probably the best old school post player in the class.
[player_tooltip player_id="106144" first="Kennedy" last="Lee"], DuPont Manual - One of the biggest risers this update, Lee nearly averaged a double double at 12.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She, like Langhi, needs to continue developing he game and becoming a better shooter from distance as she was only 2/12 from distance this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="106136" first="Mia" last="Hale"], Estill County - One of the best prospects in Eastern Kentucky regardless of class, Hale had a huge year for the Engineers. Averaging nearly 20 points per game. Shooting percentages of 40/31/69 are impressive when you consider she gets chased around all game, every game by the opposition’s best defender.
[player_tooltip player_id="106133" first="Rachel" last="Presley"], South Laurel - Limited to only 8 games because of a transfer issue after moving from Somerset to South Laurel, Rachel continues to show the potential to be a dominant player and should be the go-to player for the next two seasons for the Lady Cards. Don’t be surprised if she moves up the next time we update these rankings.
[player_tooltip player_id="106137" first="Lacey" last="Bradshaw"], Notre Dame - 14 points per game with 56% shooting is impressive and Bradshaw could be a top 3-5 player in the class once she becomes a better three point shooter. Her sophomore season she was only 1/21 from behind the 3 point line. Her college stock goes way up if she can become a 30+% shooter from deep and become a more active out of area rebounder.
[player_tooltip player_id="106134" first="Jaya" last="McClure"], Christian Academy Louisville - CAL graduates a lot of talent this year and the keys to the offense will belong to Jaya for the next two seasons. She’ll have to adjust to being the top option on offense with [player_tooltip player_id="80493" first="Shelby" last="Calhoun"] gone but McClure is already adding D1 offers because she’s a top player in the class and has the next 2 years to show just how good she can be.
[player_tooltip player_id="106135" first="Alyssa" last="Elswick"], Shelby Valley - 15 points and 8 rebounds per game is a solid season for the combo forward from the mountains. Elswick has a chance to be a big college recruit if she can continue to improve her versatility with improved shooting numbers from deep and the free throw line. She’s shown she can score around the bucket. Time to improve her perimeter skills and take the leap to the next level.
