With the high school season having recently ended, a talent-packed freshman class will soon be sophomores. Destined to be the future of their programs, some players had to produce more than others immediately and some are on already loaded rosters waiting to earn a chance to be on varsity.
Let’s dive in on some of the top guards in the 2023 Class.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="95230" first="Keegan" last="Armetta"] (Chaparral)</strong>
Armetta stands 5-foot-7 and is a promising player who shows the ability to push tempo in transition, can knock down shots behind the arc and has a good feel for the game at both ends of the floor. She scored a season high of nine points against Castle View shooting 2 for 4 (50 percent) from the field. Armetta averaged 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game as a freshman.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="118720" first="Hailey" last="Blanchard"] (The Vanguard School)</strong>
Blanchard is a player who provides a lot of spark and energy on her team with her effort. She is the Coursers' second leading scorer, averaging 11.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Blanchard doesn’t mind diving on the floor and getting after loose balls. Blanchard is also fundamentally sound, which puts her in a position to be a standout player as she continues to add to her game.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="145422" first="Gemma" last="Gibbs"] (Legend)</strong>
Gibbs a player who shows the ability to catch and shoot, extending out to the 3-point line. As she continue to improve and develop her game, she can be a player who can stretch the floor. Gibbs is a lefty guard who plays with pace when in transition. She averaged 2.8 points and 1.0 steals per game as a freshman. Gibbs shows the ability to anticipate and get in the passing lanes to interrupt passes or get steals.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="95238" first="Tania" last="Hodge"] (George Washington)</strong>
Hodge is a player who can get up and down the floor with her quickness. Hodge also prides herself on the defensive end, keeping her player in front of her at all time. In her first year as a Patriot, she averaged 2.1 points per game while shooting 15 for 34 (44 percent) shooting from the field. On a young team, Hodge will look to continue improving her game with her relentless effort. Hodge also has a high motor, making her tough to stop in transition.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="95216" first="Savitri" last="Jackson"] (Regis Jesuit)</strong>
Jackson has been showing huge improvements in her game gaining more minutes on the varsity team at Regis Jesuit. Starting in some big-time games including the Great 8 contest against Highlands Ranch, Jackson is a downhill player who can get to the rim relentlessly. Jackson averaged 4.7 points per game and shot 33 for 87 (38 percent) from the field as a freshman.
