2021 is a deep class toploaded with talent, as this past season as juniors they had the chance to show off their skills on the hardwood. The ones that made the most impact were those that were capable of making a mark on both ends of the floor and able to make every play to help their team towards success. Clatskanie’s [player_tooltip player_id="158490" first="Shelby" last="Blodgett"] is a workhorse who accumulates big stats through her ability to change the game through hard work and determination. [player_tooltip player_id="158484" first="Maya" last="Hoff"] and [player_tooltip player_id="158481" first="Taylin" last="Smith"] are similar guards, in the sense that they are tall, athletic players that change the game for their teams through making the most simple plays look extraordinary. [player_tooltip player_id="158480" first="Hilary" last="James"] and [player_tooltip player_id="158476" first="Sydney" last="Burns"] bring electric energy for their respective clubs that were taken into account this year through their deep runs into the 6A and 5A State Tournaments. Here is Part 2 of the Do It All Players of the class of 2021. [player_tooltip player_id="158490" first="Shelby" last="Blodgett"] 2021 5’8" SF Clatskanie HS - Shelby dominated the 3A level this past season, winning 3A State Player of the Year in addition to leading Clatskanie to the State Title in Coos Bay. Blodgett is a builty guard that can truly do it all, as she was the seventh player in State History to accumulate 1,000 rebounds. She is a blue collar player that can operate in the low post and has a smooth mid-range game to her as well. Blodgett is simply put, a machine that operates until the job is done and her assignment is winning. Despite a 7-25 shooting performance in the 3A State Final, she came out with a 18 point, 15 rebound, 7 steal effort. [player_tooltip player_id="158480" first="Hilary" last="James"] 2021 5’6" PG South Salem HS - Hilary is hyperactive on the court and it begins on the offensive end, where she has an excellent handle on the ball which allows her to blow past defenders, dump it off to a teammate, or pull-up from the three-point line. She shoots it with a lot of confidence and consistency and she really knows when and how to get others around her to score and makes them better. Defensively, she is a disciplined on-ball defender that moves her feet and is off to the races once the ball is in her hands. An exceptional leader that leads by example as her trademark 35 point performance illustrating all of this came against McMinnville in the 6A State Tourney. [player_tooltip player_id="158484" first="Maya" last="Hoff"] 2021 6’1" PG Southtidge HS - Maya plays at her own pace and stature despite pressures from the opposing defense and does it in a huge way for Southridge. She has a multitude of ways to get a basket, as you can take you off the dribble, shoot it from deep, and pull-up for a mid-range shot right in front of you. She also excels at the small things, whether it is setting a hard screen, or giving up the ball for an easy basket after being double teamed. Maya makes all the right reads and does it at such a high rate that it looks easy. Defensively capable and willing due to her awareness and athletic abilities. Also can play at the rim on both ends. [player_tooltip player_id="158481" first="Taylin" last="Smith"] 2021 5’5" PG Liberty HS - Taylin is a prolific offensive player whose skills are centered around her shifty ball handling skills, ability to read the floor, assess quickly, and make the right play at the right moment. She is absolutely electric when the ball is in her hands, as she makes the most simplest passes look amazing due to the fact that she does them in the most unsuspecting manner. Has a slipperiness and evasiveness to her dribble that allows her to get any shot that she wants, it is just a matter of making that decision. Defensively attentive, takes it upon her to lock down her opposition and puts a lot of effort in it as well. [player_tooltip player_id="158476" first="Sydney" last="Burns"] 2021 5’8" Wilsonville HS - Sydney has a non-stop motor as she seems to always have her hand in a play, on the defensive end of the court she pesters defenders into mistakes and turnovers and turns it into easy points. She is a tireless offensive player who aggressively drives to the rim and finishes through contact, illustrating her rough, determined state of mind. She is Wilsonville’s offensive engine, as she supplies for a good portion of their points and is a good facilitator that can find her teammates in a flurry. At the Portland Holiday Classic, she averaged 19 points, 6 assist, and 4 steals, showing that she affects the game everywhere.
