As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s that need to be valued by colleges.
[player_tooltip player_id="131219" first="Reagan" last="Franzen"] - Collins-Maxwell
Collins-Maxwell finished just two steps from reaching the Class 1A state tournament, and you can bet that will only serve as fuel to the fire for junior [player_tooltip player_id="131219" first="Reagan" last="Franzen"].
Franzen led the Spartans at 15 points per game and almost 11 rebounds, shooting 47 percent from the field and 72 percent at the free throw line.
The double-double machine added three assists and three steals a night, as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="64790" first="Elise" last="Boulton"] - G - Montezuma
The experience of reaching the state tournament likely provided Montezuma and junior [player_tooltip player_id="64790" first="Elise" last="Boulton"] with a sense of greatness being within reach.
Boulton scored almost 13 points per game, leading the Bravettes with 74 made 3-pointers. She was a 44 percent shooter from the field and knocked down 42 percent of her triples, adding 78 rebounds, 72 assists and 44 steals with just 23 turnovers.
She will be needed for even more after the graduation of leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id="134324" first="Shateah" last="Wetering"].
[player_tooltip player_id="131192" first="Kaylee" last="Weber"] - C - Sigourney
With [player_tooltip player_id="135141" first="Megan" last="Stuhr"] and Makenna Hammes graduating, Sigourney will turn control of the team over to junior [player_tooltip player_id="131192" first="Kaylee" last="Weber"].
Weber showed she is ready to accept that responsibility after scoring 297 points on 48 percent shooting this past season.
A true inside presence, Weber recorded 179 rebounds, 33 steals, 31 assists and knocked down 63 percent of her free throw attempts.
Cassity Havens - F - Iowa Valley
Iowa Valley will look to build upon a 15-8 season behind senior-to-be Cassity Havens.
The forward averaged a double-double this past year, scoring 11.7 points with 12 rebounds per night. She shot 43 percent from the floor and also added 79 steals and 30 assists for the Tigers.
Karlee Timm - F - HLV
One of the top returning rebounders in the regional, HLV’s Karlee Timm could be poised for a big season.
Timm led the Warriors with 193 points, 224 rebounds, 52 assists and nine blocks this past year, tying for the lead with 45 steals.
Her numbers could see a spike if she can improve upon her percentages from the field, the 3-point line and the free throw stripe.
