I’m closing out my Region 1 position breakdowns with the power forwards and once again, I’m basing this on what I have personally seen, either live or via Memorex but I want to say that this region definitely produced some absolute #BEASTS that are moving on to the next level, [player_tooltip player_id="66107" first="Hannah" last="Gusters"] (Baylor) who technically is a post, [player_tooltip player_id="98801" first="Asha" last="Thompson"] (Old Dominion) and [player_tooltip player_id="137395" first="Tommisha" last="Lampkin"] (North Texas) to name a few but here are my picks and as my schedule is being put together, this is where I’ll be
2021
[player_tooltip player_id="136317" first="Zarria" last="Carter"] (Mansfield)
Carter has that #THROWBACK mentality as she just battles for everything, on the floor, in the stands, or whatever. Attacks strongly and finishes after contact, she defends the same way, strongly, good rebounder on both ends of the court.
[player_tooltip player_id="136319" first="Jade" last="Goynes"] (North Crowley)
Goynes is just hard to handle, period. She can attack with power or use that solid pull-up in traffic, mid to long-range but watching her in the open court maneuver her way to the basket gives her multiple options. On top of that, she plays the passing lane
[player_tooltip player_id="97647" first="Zaria" last="Rufus"] (Duncanville)
Rufus was named to the All-Tournament team after helping lead her squad to the 6A State Championship title (UIL) and her clutch shooting, especially from the line helped get them in that position. You won’t outwork her, battles for everything and finishes strong and she reads the defense nicely
2022
[player_tooltip player_id="65912" first="Ayanna" last="Thompson"] (De Soto)
Thompson fills in many blanks for her talented team and she understands something very important, how to get hers in the flow. She’s a strong finisher and rebounder, scores from mid to long-range and she can man-up and play defense, baseline to baseline
[player_tooltip player_id="96932" first="Maya" last="Linton"] (Timber Creek)
Linton is long and athletic, remember that’s the base I always talk about and she understands the importance of playing the passing lane because she can handle the ball and reading it gives her scoring opportunities. She can score inside or outside and she rebounds and defends
[player_tooltip player_id="135370" first="Alisa" last="Williams"] (Braswell)
Williams has size with good hands and footwork but her upside is scary as she can put things together nicely n right now. She is a strong rebounder, on both ends of the court, she runs the floor well and can catch it on the run and she is also a good finisher
[player_tooltip player_id="135401" first="Allie" last="Buchanan"] (Lake Dallas)
Buchanan shows me something different every time I see her play and remember I’m always looking for progression so watching her go from primarily a back to the basket player to one that can stretch the defense with the mid to range shot is nice, oh yeah, she rebounds well
2023
[player_tooltip player_id="134027" first="Maddie" last="Cox"] (Flower Mound)
Cox used to put on a three-point shooting exhibition at older sister’s (Lauren) high school games but it’s her turn and being long and athletic gives her options. She rebounds on both ends of the court, has good timing to block, deflect or alter shots and she scores inside and out
[player_tooltip player_id="134044" first="Amiya" last="Hopkins"] (North Crowley)
Hopkins has good upside, well very good upside and she already is showing signs of breaking out because she’s powerful, on both ends of the court, she has solid offensive skills in the paint, and on top of that, she rebounds and defends well
[player_tooltip player_id="134055" first="Abbie" last="Boutlier"] (Flower Mound)
Boutlier’s growth, both on and off the court has been something to see and as she’s around 6’7 or 6’8, things keep coming together. She’s strong, she can finish and she rebounds well but her footwork and hands have taken a jump, she’s running the floor better and she’s showing huge signs of what’s coming
