As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="63634" first="Maddax" last="DeVault"] - Nodaway Valley</strong>
Nodaway Valley reached 20 wins and advanced to a regional semifinal meeting with AHSTW that went down to the wire.
Now, the Wolverines will focus on reaching the state tournament this coming year with returning players such as sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="63634" first="Maddax" last="DeVault"].
DeVault led the team in scoring at 18 points per game, shooting 47 percent from the field and almost 33 percent from long-range. She finished with 40 made 3-pointers to go with 95 rebounds, 48 steals and 45 assists.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="163352" first="Ashlyn" last="Blake"] - MVAOCOU </strong>
As a sophomore, [player_tooltip player_id="163352" first="Ashlyn" last="Blake"] averaged a team-high 15 points per game for MVAOCOU.
Blake shot 41 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line, knocking down 26 three-pointers in 21 games.
She also had 52 rebounds, 48 steals and 32 assists for the Rams.
<strong>Kendra Kuck - Underwood</strong>
Underwood’s Kendra Kuck was one of several key underclassmen for the team a year ago.
Kuck scored nine points per game, shooting over 37 percent from the field. She also 107 rebounds, 23 steals and 17 assists, making almost 60 percent of her free throws.
The Eagles return four key starters from a year ago.
<strong>Jenna Conry - Earlham</strong>
Earlham flirted with a winning record, ending the season at 8-13 overall with four league wins.
Now, a year older, the Cardinals will focus on the returning talent that includes Jenna Conry.
The sophomore started 20 of 21 games, shooting 36 percent from the field with 32 made three-pointers. She had 164 points with 97 rebounds, 27 assists and 15 steals.
<strong>Maddie Stewart - Mount Ayr</strong>
Mount Ayr will likely slide Maddie Stewart right into the starting lineup this winter after she played in all 23 games as a sophomore.
Stewart scored 149 points, shooting 33 percent from the floor with 11 made three-pointers. She also produced 58 rebounds, 56 assists and 53 steals.
