Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
Jenny Wibholm – Iowa Falls-Alden
Going into her senior season, Jenny Wibholm of Iowa Falls-Alden is looking to carry the momentum she generated over into better results in the win-loss column.
Wibholm led the Cadets, averaging 12.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last year. The Class of 2021 standout finished with 283 total points, 196 rebounds and 50 assists, shooting almost 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three-point line.
She also had 71 steals and 50 assists for Iowa Falls-Alden, shooting 62 percent from the free throw stripe.
Emily Jaeschke – Southeast Valley
Battles in the Twin Lakes Conference definitely prepare teams for the postseason, and Southeast Valley is hoping that helps them this coming season behind leading returning scorer Emily Jaeschke.
Jaeschke finished with 186 points, shooting almost 40 percent from the field and 45 percent from the three-point line. She also posted a team-high 42 assists, adding in 93 rebounds and 47 steals.
She ranked first on the team in steals and second in rebounds, making a Jaguar-high 26 three-pointers. Jaeschke also sank almost 67 percent of her attempts at the charity stripe.
Madeline Morton Madeline Morton 5'7" | PG Roland-Story | 2021 State IA – Roland-Story
After reaching a regional championship game, Roland-Story will hope that experience helps get them to state for the returning players.
That group includes Class of 2021’s Madeline Morton Madeline Morton 5'7" | PG Roland-Story | 2021 State IA who recorded 176 points and 44 rebounds in 23 starts.
Morton, who shot 39 percent from the field and made 47 three-pointers, also had 34 steals, 25 assists and blocked six shots.
Kyndal Hilgenberg – Carroll Kuemper
One of the leading returning scorers for Carroll Kuemper will be senior-to-be Kyndal Hilgenberg.
Hilgenberg finished last season with 156 points, shooting 33 percent from the field, 31 percent from the three-point line and 71 percent at the free throw stripe.
She also recorded 76 rebounds, 34 steals and had 18 assists for the Knights, who won five games.
Emily Hemmestad – Southeast Valley
Another member of the Class of 2021 who was a mainstay in the Southeast Valley starting lineup this past winter was Emily Hemmestad.
Pairing with classmate Emily Jaeschke, Hemmestad scored 171 points with 61 rebounds, 40 steals and 20 assists. She ranked behind only Jaeschke in scoring and steals, knocking down a handful of three-pointers.
Hemmestad was also strong at the free throw line, making over 75 percent of her attempts.
