Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Kenlin Schmitt Kenlin Schmitt 5'9" | PF North Fayette Valley | 2022 State IA – North Fayette Valley
The future appears bright at North Fayette Valley thanks to the emergence of Class of 2022’s Kenlin Schmitt Kenlin Schmitt 5'9" | PF North Fayette Valley | 2022 State IA .
Schmitt produced 218 points in 22 games for the TigerHawks, shooting over 41 percent from the field. She also chipped in 56 rebounds, 54 assists and 29 steals.
With just two seniors graduating from the roster, North Fayette Valley will hope for a strong season behind its abundance of returning production.
Dawsen Dorsey Dawsen Dorsey 5'10" | PG Davenport Assumption | 2022 State IA – Davenport Assumption
There was definitely a youth movement around the Davenport Assumption program this past winter, with sophomore Dawson Dorsey one of the main cogs.
Dorsey scored 154 points, which ranked among the team leaders. She also contributed 89 rebounds, a team-leading 81 steals, 61 assists and 12 blocked shots.
On the season, Dorsey shot 30 percent from the floor, making 16 three-pointers and 63 percent of her free throws.
Lauren Snyder – Camanche
After becoming one of the top scorers for Camanche this past winter, sophomore Lauren Snyder will look to improve upon the successful season she had.
Snyder tallied 109 points with 92 rebounds, 40 assists, 21 steals and 13 blocks. Her production should see a nice spike upwards with an improvement on her shooting from the field and long-range.
She did finish third on the team with 21 made three-pointers last year.
Alyssa Bohr – North Fayette Valley
Another sophomore starter for North Fayette Valley this past season was Alyssa Bohr, as she scored 169 points with 71 rebounds, 54 assists and 50 steals.
Bohr made nearly 40 percent of her shots on the season, sinking 11 three-pointers. She also consistently got to the free throw line, attempting 46 shots, which ranked third on the team.
Maddie Loken – Davenport Assumption
The experience gained last year for Davenport Assumption should help them reach the next level this coming winter.
Class of 2022’s Maddie Loken was a nice weapon off the bench, scoring 142 points with 61 rebounds, 29 assists and 28 steals. She did most of her damage from deep, knocking down 26 three-pointers.
Loken also got to the free throw line 49 times, making almost 60 percent of her attempts there.
