Continue ReadingAs teams begin gearing up for travel basketball this July, I have decided to do some club team previews in anticipation of the games to be played here soon. First up is ‘ Pacific 2022′ coached by Chris Nolen. Pacific began forming competitive girls teams three years ago under Director Cindi Burton, who also heads the Tree of Hope Pacific (4th-8th grade) youth program. Both Cindi Burton and Chris Nolen have been intricate pieces of not only the Pacific program, but also growing the girls game in Western Washington.
Pacific 2022 qualified for the first ever Jr. NBA World Championship in their 8th grade year and traveled to Florida competing against top level competition throughout the world. Fast forward to today and these girls are now rising juniors in high school, competing for college scholarships. Here is a breakdown of the roster and coach’s outlook as it stands today.
Pacific 2022 Roster:
2022 6’0 F Mercedes Tinder Mercedes Tinder 5'11" | PF Issaquah | 2022 State WA (Issaquah HS) – Very physical forward, she runs the floor, blocks shots and rebounds on both ends. Does all the dirty work.
2022 5’8 G Taylor Campbell Taylor Campbell 5'8" | CG Archbishop Murphy | 2022 State WA (Archbishop Murphy HS) – Taylor is a kid that brings energy on the defensive side of the ball. She can play the 1 or 2 and is always looking to get others involved. Very vocal and a good teammate.
2022 5’4 G Kaylee Cooper (Sumner HS) – Lighting fast small guard who is a good on ball defender; she pushes the ball in transition and has a nice jump shot out to the 3-point range. 4A SPSL HM and All-defensive team.
2022 5’7 G Kaimyla Nolen Kaimyla Nolen 5'7" | CG Kentwood | 2022 State WA (Kentwood HS) – Kaimyla is a strong combo guard who can guard 1-3 comfortably. She has a good mid-range stoke, can also score or make the pass off penetration. Right handed but loves going left. Very high basketball IQ. Team first kid. 4A SPSL All-defensive team.
2022 5’7 G/W Keira Slippern (Issaquah HS) – Keira is an athletic combo guard that attacks the basket. She is very good at drawing fouls.
2022 5’5 G Moi Matsuoka (Eastlake HS) – A small point that knows how to run a team. She’s a pass first PG that can also score when needed and plays hard on the defensive end.
2022 6’1 F Alyson Deaver Alyson Deaver 6'0" | PF Sumner | 2022 State WA (Sumner HS) – Prior to injury Alyson had one of the biggest upsides in her class, she could do it all. Will be exciting to see how she performs this summer.
2022 5’8 G/W Jadey Parrott (Sumner HS) – Attacks the basket with the intent to score. She can finish at the rim with a variety of moves. 4A SPSL HM.
2022 6’1 F Catelyn Deaver Catelyn Deaver 6'0" | PF Sumner | 2022 State WA (Sumner HS) – Catelyn can score the ball from the inside or mid-range. She can finish with either hand inside and rebounds on both ends of the floor. 4A SPSL 1st team All-league.
2022 5’11 W/F Ialissa Fredrickson Ialissa Fredrickson 5'10" | SF Auburn | 2022 State WA (Hazen HS) – Ialissa has a mix of power and speed when she attacks the rim, she can also knock down the open jumper good rebounder in traffic. 4A SPSL 3rd team All-league.
2022 5’9 W/F Torree Thomas Torree Thomas 5'9" | SF Fife | 2022 State WA (Fife HS) – Torree is a wing that likes to bang with the bigs. She moves very well without the ball and knows how to create opportunities for her self. Can guard 1-5 on defense. 2A SPSL 1st team All-league.
Coach’s Outlook:
“We are a deep team that has a ton of talent and skills mixed with Basketball IQ. This Summer, the focus will be to get out and play the best teams in both 16u and 17u. We are also focused on getting the girls college looks. This team is special and I can’t wait to show the country who we are.” – Head Coach, Chris Nolen
