Let’s take a look at the 3A Metro league!
Who won the league in ’19-20?
Lutheran went on to win the league championship finishing 11-0 in league during the regular season, and 21-3 overall. Lutheran was a high scoring team averaging 60.7 points per game. The runner up for the league champs was right behind Lutheran, Jefferson Academy finished with a record of 10-1. Overall Jefferson Academy finished 18-6, losing some close games.
Despite Jefferson Academy only losing 1 game in league, Lutheran proved to be the powerhouse team in their league. They shot the ball as a team 45 percent from the field, and above average in assist per game. Lutheran have been beating teams by 20 or more plus in multiple competitions thought out the ’19-20 season. With Lutheran two of top scorers coming back next season, they will look to have another great season.
Five players who shinned
Stephanie Schultz Stephanie Schultz 5'5" | CG Lutheran | 2021 State CO (Lutheran)
Schultz is a player that can score from any where on the floor. She is the team leading scorer with 14.5 points per game on 140-289 ( 48 percent) from the field. Schultz has a good handle on the ball, and can attack the rim with a variety of finishines. She has been improving her shooting range each year. She shot the ball from behind the arc 33-84 (39 percent) making her an able 3 point shooter. Schultz will look to join the 1,000 point club in her last season this year with Lutheran.
Hannah Banko Hannah Banko 5'11" | PF Skyview | 2020 State CO (Skyview Academy)
Banko does well in the midrange rather its knocking down the shot, or attacking the rim off the dribble. She also does a good job in the post when she is in the paint she can finish at the rim. Banko averaged 14.4 points per game, and scored a total of 273 points in her last year with Skyview Academy. She has been improving her game year in and year out dropping 20 or more points in 4 different games, and a season high in points with 24 midway through the season.
Ashley Finch (Faith Christian)
Finch shows some great mobility to her game standing at 5-foot 10. She is a relentless rebounder, and gets herself in a good defensive position. She led her team in points per game with 13.8 shooting the ball 136-323 (42 percent) from the field. Finch is a player that dominates the post with her physical present, and her pace while inside the paint. She averaged a double double per game with 11.5 rebounds per game to go along with her points. Finch scored a season high in points with 27 points towards the end of her senior season this past year.
Amanda Licht Amanda Licht 5'8" | CG Kent Denver | 2022 State CO (Kent Denver)
Licht is a crafty that can score among the best of them. She can put the ball on the floor, and finish in traffic with both hands. Only in the class of 2023, she can be a special player that could a tough matchup when competing against her as she continues to develop into a good floor general that is a playmaker. She averaged 13.4 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assist per game. Licht has already scored 247 points in the season and is well on her way to join the 1,000 point club as she continues to improve her game.
Elizabeth Rooks (Prosepct Ridge Academy)
Rooks lead her team in points per game, and rebounds per game. She stands at 5-foot-11 and has active hands in the post. She averaged 9.0 points per game on 80-181 (44 percent) from the field. Rooks is in the class of 2022 and has two more years to develop, and grow. Off to a good start already she is rebounding the ball well averaging 9.8 rebounds per game just shy of a double double. She also shows signs of having some good athleticism to her game.
