Jeriah Warren wasn’t on hand, she was back home in Louisiana and has already committed to Florida and 5 years ago I said this “Warren is going to be something special, she’s long and athletic and fun to watch in the open court. She showed me a little of this and a little of that but the package is almost complete and when it is, there’s no ceiling” and although I hate bragging about always being right, I also realize that social media has helped mislead many so I just like going back in time so here are some of the new faces as well as old
2021
Gayla Joseph (Beaumont United)
Joseph steady play and court awareness was one of the reasons her high school team was one of the best in the Houston area but that first step creates problems because it gives her numerous option, like take defender and dish or just keep, plus her pull-up adds
Josie Ogea (Grand Lake HS LA)
Ogea had me scratching my head watching her shoot the long ball and I’m thinking “how did I miss her” and since I never look at the rosters before the game, this keeps focused on progression, so seeing she was from across the state line gave me a sigh of relief because she has a nice stroke
Jakayla Parks (Center HS)
Parks has that base I love, long and athletic plus she also adds some energy as a never takes a play off kind of player but she knows how to get to the rim and finish as well as defend as well as play that ever so important passing lane
Enriqua Bellow (Deer Park)
Bellow’s high school coach told me years ago she had a freshman I needed to catch and I’ve kept the glove on since I first saw her. She’s explosive off the dribble, and also an explosive scorer from mid to long-range but she also can transform into that prototype point guard
2022
Donteria Brown (Mansfield Summit)
Long and athletic, that’s that base again. and gets to the rim from various angles, her length also can alter, deflect or just block shots but she gets it, and reads the defense for easy steals
2023
Mikaylah Manley (Barbe HS LA)
Manley is one of many players that have crossed the state line to suit up for the Phenoms and her energy was contagious, to her teammates as well as me because she was everywhere making things happen on defense but she also creates the jumper under pressure and attacks strongly, plus she can kick it out going full speed
Ese Ogbevire Ese Ogbevire 5'7" | PG Fulshear | 2023 State TXOgbevire was an urban legend before Coach Johnson asked me had I seen her and after I caught her in the playoffs, I’m thinking “THIS KID HAS THINGS YOU CAN’T TEACH” no matter what’s being told and when you can zig-zag through traffic at full speed and make passes or finish, that’s special and that jumper is coming around
Always remember when I give you advice and information, I hope you pay attention because I’ve been there from so many angles but a quickie, my daughter had over a dozen D! offers before she enrolled in high school and over a hunnid when she committed to Texas A&M, where she helped them win a National Championship so I’m just bewildered at how she made t to the WNBA with much of this nonsense people listen to, oh I know how, SHE COULD PLAY !!!!!!
