The Kalamazoo area, and the rest of southwest Michigan, are no strangers to high school basketball talent. There are a lot of very skilled players roaming the courts in that section of the state. We will analyze and rank the class of 2021’s top 5 post players.

#5

[player_tooltip player_id="175976" first="Maddie" last="Edwards"] (C, Climax-Scotts)
Edwards is a fast rising prospect. She plays defense vertically and is active on the glass. Edwards is a strong post passer with the ability to kick the ball back out to open shooters.

#4

[player_tooltip player_id="138392" first="Laila" last="Vincent"] (PF, Kalamazoo Central)
I’ve written about Vincent before, and I have a feeling it will continue. I loved the way she stepped up for K-Central last season. Vincent is an explosive scorer and a bouncy rebounder.

#3

[player_tooltip player_id="138349" first="Anna" last="Schuppel"] (PF, Schoolcraft)
I feel like Schuppel deserves more credit for her game. She’s steady in the paint and takes pride in winning the post every night. Schuppel is a vocal defender and a consistent scoring threat through put backs.

#2

[player_tooltip player_id="175937" first="Krystina" last="Kasson"] (C, Kalamazoo Hackett)
Kasson had a stand out season and should jump into our updated prospect rankings pretty easily. She hit double figures in both points and rebounds regularly. Kasson constantly altered shots, blocking just under 3 a game. She was an energy player in the paint as well, logging a ton of minutes for her team.

#1

Kai Heivilin (PF, Three Rivers)
Heivilin in an Alabama softball commit, but let’s be honest, she probably has the potential to be a Division 1 basketball prospect. At 5’9", it’s strange to put her as a post player. But no matter what position you want to label her as, she makes a huge difference in the paint. Heivilin’s strength and athleticism make her a constant double-double threat. She is a solid 2-way player that actively looks for blocks and opportunities to create a turnover.
