Region 2 covers a lot of space as far as Texas teams, from those on the outskirts of Dallas to the Houston area, from Killeen to Waco even around Austin so to be fair, I’m going the top 3 Regions,4A, 5A, and 6A, that I have personally seen and I’ll come back later with the smaller schools combined with the private schools but I want to start off with where the game starts and that’s at the one
2021
[player_tooltip player_id="136362" first="Taliyah" last="Johnson"] (Temple)
Johnson simply left me speechless during the MT Rice event as I watched her put her team on her back. I know she could score from mid to long-range as well as attack and finish but her ballhandling and BB-IQ combined with her poise and coming back injured to score double digits in 2 minutes help them make a run showed me more about her. She makes those around her better and she still has upside
[player_tooltip player_id="158668" first="Emri" last="Lovell"] (Harker Heights)
Lovell is one of those "never takes a play off" type of player because she goes hard on both ends yet watching her direct a team is a work of art as she understands how to direct teammates to the right spot and set them up yet she can hit the pull up with ease and all of this while staying under control
2022
[player_tooltip player_id="65911" first="Breanna" last="Davis"] (Red Oak)
Davis was scoring at will and showed how gracefully she was attacking the basket so I knew what to expect from the then 7th grader and voila, her growth on and off the court, she added mass and was draining 25 footers with ease throughout the club season but she also ran the squad, got the ball to the right people and set them up nicely for gimmes
[player_tooltip player_id="65915" first="Jazzy" last="Owens"] (Frisco Liberty)
Owens led her team to a state championship (UIL 5A) and was named MVP of the tournament and her ability to score is second to none yet she can guide a team in the right direction. She goes hard on both ends, handles the ball under pressure and her ability to score opens things up for teammates as her passes are crisp and on the money
[player_tooltip player_id="135379" first="Madison" last="Cockrell"] (Frisco Centennial)
Cockrell falls into that prototype point guard that can score because she has the pass-first mentality and understands how to make those around her better yet her first step is dangerous because she can pass on the money blowing by defenders or attack and finish as well as hit the outside jumper
Amanda Crowninshield (Bridgeland)
Crowninshield is a prototype PG that just gets the job done and she showed that at an early age. She also showed poise as well as handling pressure with ease but she makes plays, runs a team to precision either in the halfcourt or pushing the ball but her ability to see the court is second to none. She also can score, mid to long-range, as well as take defenders off the dribble
2023
[player_tooltip player_id="96129" first="Crislyn" last="Rose"] (Sasche)
Rose simply mesmerized me when I first saw her playing up a couple of years ago because her BB-IQ was ahead of her years as well as her mental toughness as she showed early what was coming. She directs traffic, controls the tempo yet at the blink of an eye, she can take over a game
[player_tooltip player_id="96161" first="Aniyah" last="Sanford"] (Langham Creek)
Sanford showed me something in the 4th grade that she has built on and that was confidence, comprehension and competitiveness and those 3 C’s at that age are more than solid which sort of explains her running a team that made a run as a freshman. She handles the ball pressure, she’s savvy, make the right passes and also can stretch the defense with her shot but her upside has not been scraped
[player_tooltip player_id="134048" first="Peyton" last="Landry"] (Kennedale)
Landry is shifty with the ball, nice crossover and can zig-zag through and by defenders in the open court while staying under control yet her pinpoint passes and savviness are ahead of her years and when you add that she has the midrange down already, this opens up opportunities
[player_tooltip player_id="134049" first="Mackenzie" last="Townsel"] (Frisco)
Townsell handles the ball well under pressure, sees the floor and understands how to run a team in the half-court but one of her big advantages is an explosive first step that enables her to get by defenders in the open court or in the set and she can finish with contact, attack and dish or stop and pop
