Last season as juniors, the 2021 class was able to show their overall talents and capabilities as they made strides towards their senior seasons. Amongst these were a group of players that showed the skill to rebound the basketball, a skill needed to excel at any level in the game of basketball. Emi Bishop is a unique versatile talent whose many skills include rebounding the ball at an excellent rate for the Wildcats. Schuyler Berry Schuyler Berry 6'2" | C Grant | 2021 State OR and Kylee Arzner Kylee Arzner 5'10" | SG McMinnville | 2021 State OR are two other forwards who both score in entirely different ways but share the fact that they both have an affinity for the boards. The best player in the State, Aaronette Vonleh Aaronette Vonleh 6'3" | C West Linn | 2021 State #76 Nation OR , has shown that rebounding is merely another layer of her talented game. Here are the Top Rebounders of 2021 Part 1.
Emilia Bishop Emilia Bishop 6'1" | PF Wilsonville | 2021 State OR 2021 6’1″ PF Wilsonville HS – (Pictured) Emi is a very sturdy, brute force down low for Wilsonville who uses her sheer size skillfully in the post, both as a defender and offensive force. She rebounds at an excellent pace, as she cleans up misses at the rim, and her overall defensive demeanor comes in handy for cleaning up misses on that end as well. What is exceptional about her defensive rebounding is that she presses the issue by outlet passing the ball up to her guards to initiate the break without even dribbling, a throwback skill not seen too much today.
Schuyler Berry Schuyler Berry 6'2" | C Grant | 2021 State OR 2021 6’0″ C Grant HS – Schuyler is a long, tall, agile post whose long strides and wingspan allow her to be a sensational interior defender, not only can she block shots but most of the time she will come down with the rebound as well. She commands a lot of space in the paint by her size allow, but especially when she lowers her hips and expands her body. Schuyler is active within the paint with hands that are both agile and active, which explains her tough and non-stop work ethic. Averaged 8.7 rebounds during the Portland Holiday Classic.
Kylee Arzner Kylee Arzner 5'10" | SG McMinnville | 2021 State OR 2021 5’10″ SF McMinnville HS – The ultra-talented forward helped McMinnville quench their 20 plus year drought of missing the 6A State Tournament due in part to her 31 point performance versus West Linn. Amongst her many talents is rebounding, which she averaged 7.3 of them last season as a point-forward with a solid frame that knows how to use her body to box out and shows a lot of initiative and confidence when it comes to getting the loose ball. Arzner’s efforts continue on through contact and whatever else comes between her.
Aaronette Vonleh Aaronette Vonleh 6'3" | C West Linn | 2021 State #76 Nation OR 2021 6’3″ West Linn HS – Aaronette is one of the top ranked centers in the nation, as she takes up a lot of space in the paint and is dominating when she gets her space within her area. She is a brute force that is difficult to stop or slow down, as her large frame allows her to command space between her opponents, allowing rebounds within her vicinity to be easily grabbed. These components helped her average 7.5 rebounds on the season last year for West Linn, as she was a force to be reckoned with down low for the Lions.
Kaili Chamberlin Kaili Chamberlin 5'9" | SG South Medford | 2021 State OR 2021 5’9″ SF South Medford HS – Kaili is a hard pressed guard for South Medford who has the ability as a shooter but the slipperiness inside to maneuver and make plays. Her deft movements in the post allow for creative ways to score, as she also has a nose for rebounding in the paint with her skilled positioning and active hands. This enabled her to average 8 rebounds per game for the Panthers as a positionless player who knew how to play within a system to help her team and grab boards along the way as well.
