I’ll be updating many names and players from various classes and positions over the next few weeks and I always talk about progression so if a player is already listed, I’m looking for improvement so I can move on, it doesn’t take me long to understand what I’m looking at which is why it’s important to familiarize yourself at where I’ll be and I’ve added the link to upcoming events a the bottom of the page but right now, here are some of the top small forwards "I have personally seen" in REGION 2
2021
[player_tooltip player_id="67954" first="Ashlyn" last="Jones"] (Klein Oak)
Jones recently committed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and based on her skill set should make the transition with ease. She’s one of the most athletic players in the state that can play, she’s also long and can elevate but her body control, her consistent scoring, mid to long-range and her rebounding on both ends have always stood out but her defense and ability to play the passing lane is second to none
[player_tooltip player_id="136325" first="Malaysia" last="DePrisco"] (Cedar Ridge)
DePrisco showed a knack for playing hard defense when I caught her as a freshman and over the years, she’s added a variety of ways to score offensively. She attacks from the wing and can elevate over defenders for easy baskets and finish with contact and she also shows that she can create her shot and hit the stop and pop jumper while being defended
[player_tooltip player_id="136353" first="Jazra" last="Williams"] (Vista Ridge)
Williams’s body withstands punishment as she attacks from various angles. She also can score inside against smaller players because she has good hands and footwork but the biggest takeaway has been her improved mid to long-range shooting and at last season’s All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase, she turned it on like no other and was clearly one of the top players in attendance
2022
[player_tooltip player_id="135365" first="Donovia" last="Hall"] (Plano East)
Hall is one of the most complete players in the state, she has a college-ready body and mindset yet she showed me that in middle school. She has range, she can play the 1-4 all well but watching her attack in the open court is something because she can hit players on the money or just keep it for the pull-up or attack the basket. Good rebounder and defender plus she can simply take over when needed
2023
[player_tooltip player_id="96148" first="Alexis" last="Cortez"] (Allen)
Cortez fills in many blanks because she does so much the novice evaluator will miss and that’s because it doesn’t always show up in the box score. Yes, she can score off the dribble or hitting the midrange but she thinks the game, understands picks, boxing out, switching and reading plays which also enables her to be a threat at playing the passing lane
[player_tooltip player_id="134059" first="Rayna" last="Williams"] (Frisco Lebanon Trail)
Williams had yet another growth spurt off the court yet the one on the court had me double-checking the name because she simply expanded her game on both ends of the floor. She’s long and athletic, she battles for everything but she plays within herself offensively and does a good job on the defensive end as well. I love her upside, mom played college ball and older sister stars at Duke
