Ajailah Ogiemwonyi-5’10 (John Cooper HS)
Ogiemwonyi simply blew me away a few months ago at an event I was covering because of her sheer desire to mix it up with taller players and was awarded Player Of The Game but her defense is solid, inside the paint or stepping out on the perimeter and she’s not only physical but always under control which is attributed to her athletic ability. She elevates off the ground and over taller player for rebounds, I’m talking both ends of the court and she can finish consistently, even after contact
Gabrielle Owens-5’10 Houston Dream (George Ranch HS)
Owens comes in sizzling off the grill every time I see her and like the sausage of the same name, you know you’re getting something good every time but her progression over the years is what I’m really impressed with because she has gone from just being a back to the basket player to one that can face the basket and score as well as handle the ball under pressure but make no mistake, she can display “power in the paint” against taller players and her ability to understand positioning enables her to rebound against them as well
Mallory Budt-5’11
Long and athletic is the base, Budt what else did I see from Mallory, hope you caught the play on words like she was catching the ball from various angles and finishing strong which puts her into the “good hands and footwork” category. I like her upside because there’s plenty of potential, she understands the importance of playing the passing lane, she plays within her self and she doesn’t force anything which ties into her ability to get hers “in the flow” which is always a big plus
Andrea Ramirez-5’10
Ramirez is solid on both ends of the court, she can bang and battle with players in the paint who are taller and (or) stronger or defend outside the paint and not only does she play solid defense, she enjoys it and was vocal about on the court, another lost art, as she yelled out switch or whatever else I didn’t write but I got this right, another play on words, her timing is very good as she numerous block and (or) deflections not to mention countless altering of shots from players she defended
Shana Petty-5’10 Houston Dream (Westside HS)
Petty caught the eye of a gentleman I coached with years ago and was beaming about this player that came to tryouts and when I saw her as meek 5th or 6th grader, you could just see the potential but if you missed her on live stream, you missed #THROWBACK effort and I actually caught it in some of the pics I took but her going after EVERYTHING just kept me pumped. The pull-up has improved, her attacking from everywhere is solid but the heat she applies on defense just jumps out at you
