Continue ReadingI’m going to close out the 2024 segment, well sort of and I’ll go back to the future with some 2024 Oklahoma players I saw on a variety of teams that stood out. At large tournaments, I’m always rolling on various courts so my advice to players is to ALWAYS seize the opportunity because you never know when someone of relevance is watching, I’m not talking about only me, well actually I am in this instance, but you have to be ready and if you have five minutes to be seen, play hard and play smart and don’t try something you’ve never done before because as I learned over the years, I can spot a “player” in a couple of minutes
Kemah Shaw Kemah Shaw 5'8" | CG Austin | 2024 State TX -5’6 PG/SG AD Elite Future (Austin HS)
Shaw’s poise playing up has always been something that just grabbed me whether she was showing out at a camp against older players or playing up in club ball, she just blended in from the “you wouldn’t know how old she was” aspect yet blending in is not what she does because her ability to take over games, especially down the stretch from scoring outside or attacking the basket
Aniah Alexis Aniah Alexis 5'8" | SG Cy Lakes | 2024 State TX -5’9 PG/SG Cy Fair Elite Nike Coop (Waller HS)
Alexis sold me at a middle school tournament and I know I always preach “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against ” but like a preacher once told me “do as I say, not as I do” because I know what I’m looking at, unlike many, and she can create her shot when it’s not there and nail it consistently, she plays within herself and she reads the plays before they develop
Mar’Cyah Willis-5’6 SG DC Queens Centex (LaVega HS)
Willis might be “what you saying about Willis” before it’s all said and done because here is a young lady not even in high school competing against players who are about to be seniors and the key word is “competing” and the “it’s what you do, it’as who you do it against” definitely applies because she brings the heat on the defensive end while showing she can take older players off the dribble
Bryanna Stroke-5’5 PG/SG Lady Thunder 16U (Navasota HS)
Stroke is the right last name because she has one and once she gets going, all bets are off. I have run across so many young players over the years playing up, I always look at certain things, like poise and watching her get bumped and knocked down hard to step back up and attack for an “and one” or drop a three while being tightly guarded speaks volumes as she turns that up
Stacey Williams-5’5 PG Sky Digg Elite 14U
Williams was huge surprise at #TheRise Individual Showcase and when I was told she didn’t think she did well, that just blew me away like she does defenders trying to stay with her because she’s fast with the ball in the open court, she has an explosive first step, she can hit the jumper while being guarded as well as thread the needle like a master seamstress so her mindset is that of a perfectionist because I see it
Isabella Riggan-5’7 SG/SF Texas Elite Adidas 2024 D’Addieco
Riggan is already ahead of the game because she not only plays within herself but she understands how to score in the flow and this is huge at this stage but she gets ready to step on center stage next year, here are some other pluses. She attacks the basket strong and finishes the same way and her ability to create her shot and mix it up is solid but the icing on the cake is that she sees the floor well
Ashna Tambe-5’6 PG/SG Texas Elite Maroon Leverton
Tambe has a variety of offensive skills down already as she makes the adjustment to high school ball and when you come in with the floater, that’s pretty cool but watching her set defenders up in the half-court to create her shot was just as exciting as watching her go in the open court as she has the keen ability to make passes on the money going full speed or finishing with that “floatahhhhh”
Caya Smith-6’1 SF/PF BTR 15U UAA (Putnam City West HS)
Smith made my Tip Sheet a couple of years ago and key thoughts, she doesn’t get flustered and she battles for everything so with that being said, I knew something was coming because she’s long and athletic, if you remember that’s what I consider the base, give yourself a gold star for paying attention but at 73 inches, countless colleges will definitely be on her because she brings the heat every time
