As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
[player_tooltip player_id="164960" first="Paige" last="Andersen"] - Denison-Schleswig
Part of a strong duo from the Class of 2021, Denison-Schleswig’s [player_tooltip player_id="164960" first="Paige" last="Andersen"] looks to build off her 332-point, 206-rebound season.
Andersen averaged 15 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for the Monarchs, leading them in both categories along with assists at 55 total. She shot nearly 40 percent from both the field and three-point line, as well.
Denison-Schleswig won 12 games and reached the regional quarterfinals before a tough loss to Harlan. They should be primed for a strong run this winter behind Andersen and company.
[player_tooltip player_id="164954" first="Elle" last="Scarborough"] - Glenwood
For Glenwood to get back to where they were this past year, they will need a big season out of [player_tooltip player_id="164954" first="Elle" last="Scarborough"].
Scarborough was quite the consistent producer for the Rams as a junior, recording 296 points with 145 rebounds, 136 assists and 77 steals. She also blocked 19 shots and made 22 three-pointers.
Glenwood went unbeaten during the regular season and reached the state semifinals, and the Rams return four starters from that unit. Earlier this year, Scarborough committed to St. Cloud to play volleyball.
Shaniah Temple - LeMars
LeMars battled back to the .500 mark before running into Glenwood in the regional championship a year ago.
The Bulldogs, though, return four key starters from that group including Shaniah Temple.
Temple scored 259 points on nearly 48 percent shooting from the floor with 98 rebounds, 48 assists and 36 steals a year ago.
She was also constantly getting to the free throw line and converting, making nearly 62 percent of her 110 attempts.
[player_tooltip player_id="164946" first="Ella" last="Collison"] - Carroll
[player_tooltip player_id="164946" first="Ella" last="Collison"] handled a little bit of everything for Carroll last year.
Collison scored 258 points to go along with 109 rebounds, 53 assists and 51 steals. She had more offensive boards (56) than defensive, providing quite the constant putbacks for the Tigers.
Carroll finished the year with 12 wins, a number they can achieve again behind more of the same play from Collison.
[player_tooltip player_id="64778" first="Hannah" last="Neemann"] - Denison-Schleswig
Another Class of 2021 starter returning for Denison-Schleswig is [player_tooltip player_id="64778" first="Hannah" last="Neemann"], as she is coming off a 293-point campaign.
Neemann shot over 50 percent from the field and nearly 52 percent at the free throw line, adding 186 rebounds with 39 blocks, 34 assists and 32 steals.
She forms a strong nucleus with classmates [player_tooltip player_id="164960" first="Paige" last="Andersen"] and Ellie Magnuson.
