Continue ReadingSunday marked the annual All-Indiana Elite 80 Showcase. With 72 girls able to participate, the event was once again solid, and this year’s setup allowed us to watch an entire 30-minute half (running clock) of each of the eight teams. There were 24 members of the Class of 2022 on hand, so I have split them up into three different articles. Below is a look at eight 2022 ball-handlers who participated in the event. We will have follow-up articles highlighting additional members of 2022, 2023, and 2024 who attended the event coming soon.

Nataley has really put herself on the map as a nice young playmaker over the last 12-18 months. She has great length, fluid athleticism, and she plays with a nice motor. Her length is a real problem for opposing ball-handlers at the defensive end of the floor, and offensively she does a nice job of selflessly getting into the heart of the defense to find open teammates. Her perimeter shot has come along nicely, but that’s one area she’ll really need to continue developing, if anything. She has also grown a couple of inches in the last year, and she might squeeze out another before it’s all over.

Jessica is a scoring point guard who does a really nice job of getting by defenders and attacking the basket. Sunday that was on display as much as anything. She has a fairly strong frame and absorbs contact well, and she plays with a relentless energy. It looks like her balance and change-of-direction have improved a bit, plus she’s taking better angles defensively now. She has also shot it more consistently this past year, but she can be a little streaky at times. She is just a real offensive presence and a major problem for opponents.

I’ve raved about Koryn’s play all Summer, and that continued over the weekend. Teaming up in the same backcourt as

(2023), Koryn was able to find open rhythm jumpers, attack the gaps much easier, plus she continues to find teammates in positions to score. She is a tremendous high school player and a nice college prospect. If she can continue to improve her lateral quickness and on-ball defense, look for Division-I programs to show more and more interest in the coming months. She is a really nice, skillful ballplayer.

Rayah has been on an incline since the beginning of the Summer, but I think in the portion of her day I was able to see Sunday, it was the best she has shot the ball in 2020. She is a strongly built, versatile athlete who can handle the ball and run offense, attack the basket off the bounce, or play off the ball and score it at all three levels. She has struggled through injuries most of the last two calendar years, but as she continues to return to form, she is looking leaner and more explosive, and it shows in her productivity each time out.

Hadley is the ideal high school point guard and a nice college prospect as well. She has good strength at her size, she is a solid athlete in all directions, plus she is a good ball-handler, a fairly consistent shooter, and she gives good energy at both ends of the floor. At 5’5 she could stand to increase her first-step burst just a little, but she does a solid job of getting defenders on her hip and using her frame to absorb contact. She’s selfless and a solid communicator, plus she competes. Hadley is a multisport star at Heritage Hills as well.

Teresa is the epitome of what we come to love with little guards. She is quick/fast, extremely feisty and tough, plus she plays with a tremendous amount of energy. She is a playmaker off the bounce, as she attacks the basket to score and/or find teammates wide open. She has become a more consistent perimeter shooter as well. If there is one area she can improve upon, it’s that the game doesn’t have to be played at 100 MPH all the time. As she continues to figure out how to change speeds, it will make her that much more dangerous. Teresa has already committed to IUPUI.

Zoe has had as big of a Summer as any 2022 in the state in terms of her recruiting. She has really good length, fluid athleticism, and she is somewhat bouncy as well. She is a scoring point guard who tries to create scoring opportunities on each catch. She can get downhill quickly, finish around the basket, or find open teammates. She is also improving her perimeter jumper, though that could be a little more consistent. Zoe picked up a few Division-I offers over the course of the Summer, and she has a lot more interest than she did pre-July from a variety of schools.

Tanyuel put together two different halves to the Summer. She began 2020 playing solidly and fairly consistent, but after a change of teams within her travel program, this long and athletic lead guard really stepped up and took off, earning a number of Division-I offers. Tanyuel is still a little on the thin side, but she is still growing, she’s playing stronger, and she has elite quickness to her. She can lock up with her length and quickness, she’s great off the bounce attacking the basket, plus she’s also shooting it better from around the perimeter.
