As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
[player_tooltip player_id="64807" first="Zoey" last="Long"] - Muscatine
When Muscatine needed a bucket, they looked to Class of 2021’s [player_tooltip player_id="64807" first="Zoey" last="Long"].
Long delivered more times than not, posting a team-leading 273 points on almost 40 percent shooting from the field with 52 made three-pointers. She also sank over 78 percent of her free throws to go along with 41 rebounds, 23 assists and 21 steals.
Me’Kiyah Harris - Davenport North
If Davenport North is going to make any noise in Class 5A, they will need Me’Kiyah Harris to carry the load as a senior.
The Class of 2021 Harris was a nice compliment to [player_tooltip player_id="135061" first="Camry" last="Dillie"] a year ago, posting 232 points with 49 rebounds, 37 assists and 29 steals. She shot 44 percent from the field and knocked down 23 three-pointers.
Jessi Meyer - Pleasant Valley
Jessi Meyer from Pleasant Valley will look to make noise as a senior after posting 112 points with 54 rebounds, 33 steals and 17 assists last year.
Meyer came off the bench for the Spartans, shooting almost 35 percent from the field, over 53 percent from the free throw line and sinking 14 three-pointers.
Madi Petersen - Muscatine
Muscatine’s Madi Petersen was all over the glass as a junior, recording 163 boards to lead the Muskies. She collected almost half of those on the offensive glass with 59 rebounds.
To go along with her rebounding skills, Petersen also had 129 points, 18 blocks, 16 steals and 10 assists.
[player_tooltip player_id="131218" first="Bella" last="Sims"] - Davenport North
Another regular in the starting lineup for Davenport North a year ago was Class of 2021’s [player_tooltip player_id="131218" first="Bella" last="Sims"].
Sims scored 210 points as one of three Wildcats to surpass the 200-point mark. She shot over 38 percent from the field, made 21 three-pointers and also led the team with 108 assists.
She added 106 rebounds and 47 steals to her season.
