Continue ReadingThe number of ranked 2022 ranked players grew by 33 to total a robust 172. A small collection of players managed to notably advance their standing even with the nearly 30% increase in player included. Here’s a look at the four in that collection listed in order of positions climbed.
Ashley Carrillo Ashley Carrillo 5'7" | PG Liberal | 2022 State KS , 5’7″, PG, Liberal, GameBall Basketball 16U — Carrillo advanced 29 spots to #22 and will continue to make noise to as she challenges the top 10. I have seen her several times this summer and she is going to be a nightmare for every team the Redskins step on the floor against simply because she is a monster on both ends. Offensively she is fast, athletic, and a strong finisher as well as perimeter shooter. On the other end she has terrific hand and feet quickness. About her IQ, she will lull defenders to sleep by pulling them out to the perimeter and then blow by them to the basket. 2021 will only be her second full season, having missed 2019 due to injury. Newman University has already offered her.
Taedyn Gray Taedyn Gray 6'3" | PF Shawnee Mission West | 2022 State KS , 6’2″, PF/C, Shawnee Mission West, Missouri Phenom 16U EYBL — This 2020 Sunflower League second teamer gained 17 spots to reach #15. Gray averaged 10 points and 6.1 rebounds. She averaged 8.5 rebounds in 2019. Strong and long, she has good hands and can catch and finish well against contact. Able to roll off her screens well, Gray also can score out of her back-to-basket game. Watch for her ability to handle well to dribble out of trouble off the rebound, outlet, pass up the floor, and run the floor to get a return pass in transition.
Brittany Harshaw Brittany Harshaw 6'0" | PF Andover Central | 2022 State KS , 6’0″, SF/PF, Andover Central, Wheat State Elite Paul — Harshaw disrupts the top of the ranks by moving up six spots to #4. This past season the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div II first teamer averaged 17 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. She was also a Kansas Basketball Coaches Association first team all state selection. I saw her briefly this summer and what captured my attention was how well she handles the ball. With her length, scoring ability, and handles on a team loaded at most positions, Andover Central is a serious threat to win it all in Class 5A. She has picked up several NCAA Div I offers.
Amaya Perez Amaya Perez 5'7" | CG Dodge City | 2022 State KS , 5’6″, PG/SG, Dodge City, GameBall Basketball 16U — While bumping up three spots to #74, Perez is on the launching pad into the top 50 and beyond. This coming season the Demons are going to be loaded from the PG to W positions and might finally get some size to compete inside to go with PF Alicia Solis Alicia Solis 5'9" | PF Dodge City | 2021 State KS . Perez WILL challenge for a starting position. One thing I thought Dodge was missing last year, which teams like McPherson exposed, was the lack of a floor leader mentality at the PG spot. Perez showed the ability to do just that for a club team that played up all summer and made 17U teams absolutely miserable. She runs well, has strong handles, and leads her teammates well in transition. She is not going to be intimidated by the guard play that Hugoton, Liberal, McPherson, or anybody else is going to throw at her. Perez is a developing perimeter shooter who has extended her range to 20’. While she is not a money threat yet, she is credible enough that defended alone – she will get to the rim under control to finish or make the crisp perimeter dish. Perez is not a player to foul but she may make a living off three point plays the old fashioned way.
