This Individual Showcase places kids on a legitimate map year after year, I don’t fabricate, have no agenda whatsoever and will always keep it real and the upside see in these SIX has me eager to see what they’ve added a few months down the road
2022
Arianna Sazo-5’8 guard (Kingwood Park)
Sazo played in both sessions and her endurance definitely stood out because she played just hard when it was over as she did when it started and her ability to create her shot just jumped right out at me during the one on one drills so it was no surprise that she kept doing it when the bright lights came on in the 5 on 5 matchups. Nice mid to on range shooting, attacked the basket, handled the ball well under pressure and saw the floor
Emerson Davis
Davis was solid on both ends of the floor, her BB-IQ and playing within herself also stood out as well as understanding when to take her shot and how to set defenders up to create it. She did so many little things that wouldn’t necessarily show in a box score or a stat sheet but she also falls into one of those “never takes a play off” type of players. Good midrange as well as taking defenders off the dribble
Kaila Hamilton (Hendrickson HS)
Hamilton brought plenty of energy ad showed signs of being overpowering in the paint, either rebounding on both ends of the court or finishing with players hanging on her. As strong as she was on the inside, she has a soft touch facing the basket and showed she could score just as consistently but her defense, inside of the paint as well as outside of it was more than good
2023
Aliyah Solis-5’2 PG (Lamar Consolidated)
Solis mixes it up offensively with a variety of ways to create her shot including a nice step back which is very effective or a #sizedontmatter guard and on top of that, her jab step gets the defense off balance and gives her options on whether to take the pull-up or attack the rim. Her ballhandling under pressure as well as court vision rounds off a nice package
Payton Tatum-5’9 (Lampass HS)
Tatum has good size and understands not only how to get to her spot but when to actually take the shot and as she elevates over defenders, her pull-up is definitely nice and accurate plus when you throw in she handles the ball well in the open court and that gives her options on whether to take the “stop ad pop” or just attack the basket which she did sometimes effortlessly
Jaelyn Morrison-5’9 (J.M. Hanks HS)
Morrison was another pleasant surprise simple because she goes hard and is always smiling but her intensity was second to none as she was an “and one” waiting to happen. Her athletic ability as well as frame allows her to not only get there but finish multiple ways and that first step is going to create some problems. Speaking of create, she does that well to get her shot off easily from midrange
