In a very competitive matchup, it was Midwest United who took a 51-50 victory over the St. Louis Eagles in the championship game. Here is a look at the standouts from this battle of excellent teams from “The STL.”
Kennedi Watkins Kennedi Watkins 5'10" | SF Marquette | 2021 State MO 5’11″ Midwest United: The SEMO commit from Marquette High was the MVP of the game as she finished with 18 points, which included the game-winner on a coast-to-coast drive for a layup in the closing seconds. She was virtually impossible to stop when she attacked the basket and she finished well off the backboard. She was also an active rebounder and defensive player throughout the game.
Saniah Tyler Saniah Tyler 5'7" | PG Incarnate Word Academy | 2022 State #43 Nation MO 5’7″ St. Louis Eagles: The talented 2022 point guard from Incarnate Word Academy scored a game-high 20 points and displayed three level scoring ability. She created shots off the dribble with his smooth handles and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. She displayed her competitive nature as she scored many tough buckets down the stretch to give her team a chance to win the game. She is starting to rack up the high-level Division I offers.
Makaiya Brooks Makaiya Brooks 5'9" | CG Springfield Central | 2021 State MO 5’8″ Midwest United: The University of Memphis commit from Springfield central did her best work in the second half where she scored all 10 of her points. She hit a long 3-pointer, but much of her damage was done at the 3-point line where she displayed several good moves off the bounce to get into the lane and draw contact.
Jaliyah Green Jaliyah Green 5'10" | SG Holt | 2021 State MO 5’11″ St. Louis Eagles: An impressive combo forward from Wentzville Holt who didn’t score a whole lot of points, but she was still a factor with her activity on the defensive end and on the boards. She had many nice deflections on the press defense and blocked a few shots. On offense, she is a good slasher who can get buckets in heavy traffic.
Mallory Ronshausen Mallory Ronshausen 5'8" | CG Cor Jesu | 2021 State MO 5’8″ Midwest United: The shooting guard from Cor Jesu had a big first half to get her team off to an early advantage. She showcased her prowess from 3-point range, but she also did some nice things moving without the basketball. She did a lot of little things that helped her team as well as she got to loose balls and took charges.
Kiyah Cooper 5’8″ St. Louis Eagles: The combo guard from Vashon was impressive on the offensive end with eight points off the bench. She uses her physical strength well to get into the lane and finish through contact or draw fouls. She can also knock down an open 3-pointer. She plays a very under-control game that is very effective.
J’Lessa Jordan 6’1″ Midwest United: The athletic forward from Hazelwood Central was a big factor in the paint with her rebounding and shot blocking. Her second and third jump are so quick as she crashes the offensive boards to keep possessions alive for her team. She is also an improved finisher around the basket.
