Continue ReadingThe Kindred Vikings went into last year as the favorite to win the Class B state title, and they held that title until the minute they lost in the Region 1 final to Central Cass. The Vikings were undefeated and dominant up until that point. With two all-state juniors set to return, along with several key complementary pieces, the Vikings will head into the 2020-21 season ranked firmly in the top-three.
Go-To Player: Abby Duchscherer Abby Duchscherer 6'1" | CG Kindred | 2022 State ND
Duchscherer is the best player in the state regardless of age or class size and an elite level prospect – in multiple sports. She’s been an all-stater twice and is just now entering her upperclass years. She’s long, athletic, smooth, smart and highly skilled. She stuffed the stat sheet in a big way last year, averaging 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists while being incredibly efficient. And she’s not getting any worse.
Breakout Candidate: Kacie Burner Kacie Burner 5'8" | CG Kindred | 2023 State ND
Burner saw rotation minutes as a freshman and showed she’s capable of providing a positive impact defensively and as an off-the-ball shooter and cutter. She’s stepping into a dandy of a situation with Duchscherer and Terryn Johnson Terryn Johnson 6'1" | C Kindred | 2022 State ND drawing as much attention from opposing defenses as any duo in the state. And with the way the Vikings share the ball, she’ll have no shortage of opportunity to shine.
Question: Who Fills In Around Duchscherer and Terryn Johnson Terryn Johnson 6'1" | C Kindred | 2022 State ND ?
Duchscherer and Johnson form the best one-two punch in the state. They are going to drive the winning for the Vikings and be the reason they are considered the favorite (or on the very short list) for a state title. But good teams will be able to at least slow them down – so when it gets to those points, do the Vikings have other players that can step up? Tina Freier Tina Freier 5'9" | SG Kindred | 2022 State ND ’s shown she can do it each of the last two years. The complementary players will have a lot of opportunities to shine.
Season Outlook
Kindred will head into the 2020-21 season, at worst, on a very short list to win a state title. The Vikings have the kind of high-end talent with Duchscherer and Johnson that so few other teams have, and they are more than a two-player outfit. Central Cass showed they aren’t invincible, but they are deserving of the hype.
