I speak about taller players being “long and athletic” and say that’s the base but when you can handle the ball going full speed and make passes like Washington did early, that too is the base but with so many talented players at the I-35 Showcase in Austin (Buda) and since I’m talking about bases, other 2021 point guards crossed the plate
LaQuayla Chambers-Wells (Westlake HS)
Chambers-Wells wasn’t in my search bar either on my blog or website so that tells me either I hadn’t seen her or I had and didn’t have a roster, nevertheless I got a great look at her at the event and this first thing that I noticed is something I really like to see and that was her first step which set numerous opportunities up for her. She understands how to use to attack the rim she also used it to take the pull-up jumper but here ballhandling and ability to see the floor were good as well, definitely one of the best I saw the first time at the event
Tamera Copeland-5’3 (Temple HS)
Copeland played well on both ends of the court, doesn’t try and do anything fancy, plays within herself, and understands how to control the tempo so she would fall into that “prototype” point guard category because she can also handle the ball and get it to the right people at the right time but she also showed she could create her shot under pressure and take defenders to the rim
Eliza Lehmann-5’6 (Tomball HS)
Lehmann is right here in Houston and the only info I have is what I wrote at Pass Tha Ball #Select40 so if you consider me snitching about having rosters, there goes my street credibility but Lehmann’s credibility shot up because everything I said the first time was true, that’s because I’m a #RealEvaluator and watching her create her shot under pressure for the jumper, the attack or the attack and dish went well, especially when you combine solid ball-handling
Summer Hill-5’5 (Clear Lake HS)
Hill is definitely climbing it (hill) as she showed a variety of things she did well at the event, first of all, she understands how to use her athleticism, meaning she’s under control and not wild, secondly, she does a good job at rebounding against taller players, it’s not as easy as it seems but she plays with confidence and handles the ball well under pressure which enables her to also make the right passes, yes she sees the for well
Mehkkah Johnson-5’0 (Man Academy SE)
Johnson proves one more time that #sizedontmatter when you can play and her mindset is “you won’t outwork me” and she shows that over and over battling for loose balls and everything but she understands the game and another player that just “played within themselves” and got the job done. She handled the ball well in traffic and she saw the floor plus she has range, mid to long
Hallie Salazar-57 (J.B. Alexander HS)
Salzar was smooth under pressure, handles the ball, saw the floor, and made the right passes at the right time but she also showed she could take defenders off the dribble as well as create her shot but the remix adds that she was vocal and also showed she could the handle the ball in the open court and push it
Imagin Flores-5’4 (Earl Warren HS)
Flores has always shown size didn’t matter because she’s always going to bring it, be it handling the ball, seeing the floor, or just dropping the long ball consistently and her remix was that pressure she uses when she not only attacks the rim but on the end of the court playing defense as she keeps the heat up
