I wanted to break the classes down by positions to give you an idea of who just took it to another level as well as those who “popped out” at the party and showed some really good signs but here are five that just kept getting it done every time I caught them
Evelyn Quiroz-5’6 (Laredo United HS)
Quiroz made the “the ones I hadn’t seen” list a few weeks yet it didn’t take me long to know what I was looking at and as she will make a huge debut on my next PGH Texas Top 100 in December, she is doing a variety of things that will definitely raise a lot of college coaches eyebrows. Her ballhandling and seeing the floor is second to none, not to omit her BB-IQ yet she can score, off the dribble and mid to long-range by creating her shot and separation and as she continues to impress me, her defense also stood out
Taliyah Johnson Taliyah Johnson 5'6" | PG Temple | 2021 State TX -5’4 (Temple HS)
Johnson is one of those players I went and asked “who is she” because I did not have a roster, I can’t emphasize the importance of non-erroneous information but she doesn’t give that on the court because she’s vocal and understands how to run a team in the halfcourt yet she has speed, with the ball and this enables her to push it and seeing her make passes on the money going full speed has become a norm. She also can score, she sets defenders up nicely to attack or just show the mid to long-range
Jazmine Taylor-5’4 (Akins HS)
Taylor has completed a trifecta for me because, in the last month, I’ve seen her in three events and she just keeps showing me a different side of her game. One thing is constant, she goes hard on both ends, and watching her attack and finish after contact shows me how strong she is and that strength and endurance stands out defensively but her handing of the ball under pressure and running sets continues to speak volumes especially when you add seeing the floor because she makes tight passes look easy
Isabela Leal-5’5 (Leander HS)
Leal showed me earlier in the season she was a threat from deep and as her range continued to grow, so did my views on how talented she is and if I had a SHOWTIME award to give, she’d be in the running especially after doing just that, running a player down and stealing the ball on the way up but here “never takes a play off” mentality just grabs me as she creates her shot, either to attack or shoot the jumper, she has handles, her behind the back and throwing the “no look” on the money was superb but she sees the floor through a microscope
Mikayla Ward-5’6 (Hendrickson HS)
Ward needs an A in front of her last name because she has been overly impressive all season and what a way to just extend my views on what she brings to the table. She’s athletic and has a very nice first step that sets everything up in the half-court and her ability to create, either for the pull-up or just blow by defenders has always been there yet she does a very good job at running a squad, she’s vocal, under control and gets the job done by getting the ball to the right person at the right time
