2022
Rachel Okoye Rachel Okoye 5'6" | CG George Ranch | 2022 State TX -5’6 G (George Ranch HS)
Okoye has that explosive first step and she sold me in this past season’s playoffs but watching her use it and finish with either hand had me smiling. She creates her shot very well and with that first step, defenders are sometimes at her mercy because she can shoot it from outside but if they play her too close, she’s gone just like that. Her handling the ball going full speed has also shot up
Peyton Overton Peyton Overton 5'7" | CG Dulles | 2022 State TX -5’8 G (Dulles HS)
Overton falls into the I got up and found out what her name was the first time I saw her. I walk 10K steps before 10 am so I hate walking around asking for rosters and more times than not, I don’t because it makes no sense but many things don’t nowadays yet if you are a PLAYER, I actually get up and find out who you are. Overton was over the top as far as talent and her poise in the 6th or 7th grade was way ahead of her years but her jumper and attacking the basket was solid. Now, she’s handling the ball strongly with either hand, under pressure and seeing the floor
Ashlee Seymour-6’0 P (Clear Brook HS)
Seymour was definitely a pleasant surprise because first of all, she’s around that magic number of 6’0 and secondly, she’s long and athletic and if you haven’t been paying attention, I call that the base because with that, intangibles galore can be added. She plays the passing lane which is something I love to see and understands positioning on the inside but her upside with what I’ve mentioned is definitely intriguing
Kolby Davis-5’8 G (The Kinkaid School)
Davis has made jump after jump after jump since I started watching her three years ago and going from a back to the basket player, she added handling the ball in the open court as well as seeing the floor as she showed combo skills but as I started this by saying she made jump after jump, she’s making jumpers after jumpers, I can’t script this any better but her powerful defense as well as attacking the rim under control have taken off, as well as that jumper but equally as impressive is her being “vocal on the court” and with solid BB-IQ …..
Jade Miller Jade Miller 5'6" | PG Manvel | 2022 State TX -5’5 G (Manvel HS)
Miller also falls into the “I got up and asked who she was” and the laziness compiled with cluelessness has left a lot of players evaluated less but she was in the 6th grade and hit 4 or 5 threes in a row and on top of that, played the passing lane and made an “and one” for the win, that’s an old fashioned three-pointer but I had her game and eventually got her name and watching her “want it” over the years has really been pleasing to me because she defends against the top scorer, she loves competition and she understands how to get hers in the flow as well as create for herself and others but at the event, she showed even deeper range and did a good job finishing after contact
2023
Tracey Matindu-5’6 SG (Cypress Ranch)
Matindu is another who made one of my Tip Sheets in elementary school and watching her game blossom over the years has been great. I walked into the Showcase and watched her warm-up and then her dazzling ballhandling drill just had me beaming, REAL EVALUATORS see everything but I also saw what was coming and what will be coming in the near future. She plays within herself, can get to the basket, and hit the stop and pop but trust me, once she realizes that she has the ability to take over games, archive what I’m saying because her upside is through the roof. She’s long and athletic, her energy is consistent, and that pull-up is nice
