Some could argue that these types of players are the most important one. Take a look at some impressive 3s, 4s and 5s!
Maria Parsley Maria Parsley 5'9" | SF Flandreau | 2022 State SD 5’9 Flandreau H.S. Small Forward, Sacred Hoops
Not a flashy type of player but extremely effective. Parsley has some pretty big shoes to fill. The Fliers graduated their all-time points and steals leader Hannah Parsley Hannah Parsley 5'9" | PF Flandreau | 2020 State SD , which happened to be her sister. Maria has tons of potential. She can get downhill in a hurry and stop and pop.
Reagan Johnson Reagan Johnson 5'9" | SF Sioux Valley | 2022 State SD 5’9 Sioux Valley H.S. Small Forward
Johnson was an All-Lake Central Conference member as a sophomore. With the departure of Miakken Vincent Miakken Vincent 5'10" | SF Sioux Valley | 2020 State SD , Johnson knows she will have to be the new leader of the Sioux Valley Cossacks. This summer she has been putting in the work. Johnson had a nice showing at the Black Hills State University Elite Camp. At 5’9 she able to play two to three positions, ranging from the two guard to a four-man. This has allowed her to add different skill sets to her game. She showed she can bring defenders out and use her speed to get by them. Or she can post up smaller guards and overpower them with her strength. Johnson is poised to have a breakout season. Johnson can play multiple positions allowing her to switch off on defenders. She normally plays the wing but can guard 4s, which can cause match-up problems for the defense.
Kayla Vohlken Kayla Vohlken 5'2" | PG Watertown | 2022 State SD 5’11 Sioux Falls Roosevelt H.S. Power Forward, SD Network
Marrow is one of those tweeners. She is mobile enough to play the 3 and 4 but long enough to guard some 5s. Very active and athletic on the boards. Developed a nice mid-range 14 to 17-foot jump shot.
Sidney Thue Sidney Thue 6'1" | PF Brandon Valley | 2022 State SD 6’1 Brandon Valley H.S. Power Forward, SD Attack
I’ve seen Thue have this sequence in a game. On defense, blocks a shot, sprint down the court and post up and scores the bucket. Then position herself at the top of the full court press, gets a deflection, fade for a three and knock it down. Again, one of these new age forwards. She still has tons of untapped potential.
Josie Hill Josie Hill 6'2" | PF Rapid City Central | 2022 State SD 6’2 Rapid City Central H.S. Power Forward, Sacred Hoops
Long, strong and really athletic. Hill can be a force in the paint. Did I mention long? With much improved footwork and outside shooting, the Cobblers of Rapid City Central will rely on a big season from Hill. I can easily see her being the state’s leader in blocked shots, simply because she can cover so much ground. She’s able to block, deflect and alter shots from a distance.
Kara Niles Kara Niles 6'1" | PF Beresford | 2022 State SD 6’1 Beresford H.S. Power Forward
Niles is coming over a season ending knee injury. She is looking to get back to being a major contributor for the Watchdogs.
Kennadi Buchholz Kennadi Buchholz 6'0" | C De Smet | 2022 State SD 6’0 De Smet H.S. Center, Pentagon Schoolers-Johnson
Physicality in the post is a must and Buchholz definitely brings that. She knows how to get great position and seals her defenders well. Once she gets the ball, its “BBQ Chicken Alert!” Not only does she have a great post presence, but she has the ability to step out and hit the mid-range.
Emilee Boyer Emilee Boyer 6'1" | C Harrisburg | 2022 State SD 6’0 Harrisburg H.S. Center
There are not too many true centers out there, but Boyer may be a sleeper. She is a dual sport athlete, so summer ball is not on her resume. However, that’s not stopping her drive to become a better basketball player. As a softball player, she brings that grit and toughness to the court. She’s running the floor like she’s rounding the bases. She’s taking charges like she’s taking on a home plate collision.
Madelyn Bragg Madelyn Bragg 6'3" | C Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD 6’1 Aberdeen Roncalli H.S. Center, BBA
Bragg was having a heck of a 2019-2020 high school season. Her Cavaliers only had three losses, two by 2 points combined, entering the state tournament. Fast forward to summer ball, her BBA squad was having a surprise season. Bragg’s anchored the middle for BBA and controlled the paint. She became a lot more mobile which helped open lanes for her guards. Having the capability to spread the floor was an advantage for her team
