Some players enter the Prep Girls Hoops prospect rankings in the 9th grade and steadily work their way up the list. Others hover in the same general vicinity throughout their high school career. Then there are the late bloomers and hidden gems, those athletes who make their splash late. The following are players that are new to our list as they enter their junior season hoping to make a name for themselves with the college recruiters.

player_tooltip player_id="203061" first="Taylor" last="Holten"] is a 5’10 Post from Columbia. Taylor is a strong inside player that can get her position and use her strength to hold the spots she wants. She will work hard on the boards on both ends. Taylor was the leading scorer and rebounder for a team that went through some rebuilding and injury issues last year. I expect Taylor to up her production this year and the Lady Eagles to become a winning program again.

[player_tooltip player_id="203238" first="Abby" last="Scharf"] is a 5'10 Wing from Mt. Zion. Abby was a nice complimentary option for a senior led Mt. Zion club last year. She can hit the 3 point shot as she averaged over 1 per game last year. She will be one of the top returning scorers and rebounders from her 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game season. This year she will need to step up and offer an option for a bigger more consistent role. During the summer she got some nice experience with the Predators where she continued to show some nice scoring games but was also forced to show versatility and fight on the defensive end of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="203062" first="Stream" last="Black"] is a 5’10 Wing from Harrisburg. Stream is a player that had a nice role on a senior dominated squad last year as a sophomore. She proved to have an ability to score inside and also behind the 3 point line. Stream will most likely lead this years team to another nice season and be the leading scorer. She is well on her way to having a nice shot at 1,000 points. She can hurt you inside as she is very comfortable in the lane too.

[player_tooltip player_id="203063" first="Kristin" last="Edmonds"] is a 5’9 Guard from Anna-Jonesboro. Kristin has a versatile offensive game in which she can hit from both the outside and use her dribble to attack her defender. She has a nice catch and shoot ability out past the three point line but she is not limited there. Kristin can take the ball of the bounce and pull up in the mid range or get to the rim. She does a good job on defense getting tips and steals. She is a nice small college combo guard option.

[player_tooltip player_id="203060" first="Ariana" last="Bennett"] is a 6ft wing from Edwardsville. Ariana is a player that has been on a mission to improve her wing play for the last couple of years. As she came out of middle school she was a Rodman type that was relentless on the boards and an excellent defender. Now she is mixing in more tools on the offensive end and improving her ability to handle the ball and hit an outside jumper. Ariana still has a high motor and is an excellent role player for a team that has traditionally had scorers to pick up the slack.

[player_tooltip player_id="203244" first="Georgia" last="Duncan"] is a 6ft Wing from Washington. Georgia plays well in a transition game because she has the height to secure defensive boards and the ball handling to take off down the floor and lead the break. She does a good job of making decisions on the move. If the right play is to pass, she does, if she can take the pull up jumper she will but if the chance is there to get to the rim, she is going.Georgia also does a nice job hitting the jumper either off the catch or the one dribble pull up.

[player_tooltip player_id="201080" first="Katie" last="Smith"] is a 5’9 Wing from Canton. Katie is a physically tough player that will compete and is very aggressive. Her offensive game away from the lane has shown consistent improvement. Katie does a good job of attacking the rim from the wing or high post area. She has also improved her jump shot to be able to hit with good frequency from the 12-17 foot range.

[player_tooltip player_id="201081" first="Taylor" last="Wells"] is a 6’2 Post from St. Joe Ogden. Taylor has that height and body that you just cannot teach. She is still working to improve her footwork and skill in the post, but is making strides. She can rebound well and has nice touch around the rim that are good starting points for any post.

[player_tooltip player_id="203245" first="Gracie" last="Kizer"] is a 5’9 Wing from Pekin. Gracie is a nice combo guard type player that not only can score but has great vision. She is a good spot up shooter with a quick release and nice lift and extension on her shot. Gracie can also attack the rim and finish in the lane. Defensively she has really improved her ability to apply pressure on the ball and come up with steals.

These girls can all play at the next level. Most of them may be small college gems but all of them are still early enough in the process that they have plenty of time and room to grow and maximize their potential.
