2023 Rankings – The Rest of the Top-10

As we continue our closer look at the 2023 rankings, today we will look at the players ranked six to ten. As I mentioned with the last closer look, the 2023 players are an outstanding and varied group of players who are already seeing the college offers coming in. Here they are! [player_tooltip player_id="197946" first="Elle" last="Papahronis"] | 5-11 G/F | Edmond North | @EllePapahronis Elle is a very smart player who - and I know my coaches out there will like this - is a coach’s kid. She sees the play well and is a very good passer. She plays more as a tall guard and shoots very well from the outside. She defends hard and is tenacious with opposing ballhandlers. As the years go by until her graduation, Elle will learn to use her body more and go inside where she will be an absolute beast in the paint - a true inside/outside threat. She is gritty and tough and her father will have she and her sister (Toni Papahronis) working and learning over these next few years. Elle already holds an offer from the Naval Academy in Annapolis. [caption id="attachment_199490" align="alignleft" width="300"] Photo: Tulsa JYD[/caption] [player_tooltip player_id="197947" first="Alexis" last="Winton"] | 6-1 F | Owasso | @WintonAlexis Winton is going to be a great one when all is said and done. She plays for a Tulsa JYD team that emphasizes ball-handling for players of every size. This makes her an extremely versatile player. She is a shot-blocking machine, nicknamed "the red rejecter" by her coaches due to her hair color and propensity to swat almost every shooter that dares step in the lane. She relishes the chance to defend and rebound. After the rebound, Alexis will be the one sprinting up the court with the ball, deftly handling it and maneuvering between defenders. No need for the center to pass the ball off to a guard in this case. Winton is a D-I player and coaches need to keep an eye on her for the next few years. [caption id="attachment_199492" align="alignright" width="300"] Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="197948" first="Braydin" last="Russell"][/caption] [player_tooltip player_id="197948" first="Braydin" last="Russell"] | 5-10 G/F | Bishop McGuiness | @BraydinRussell Another coach’s kid who is extremely smart, but more than that, she is extremely dedicated. She takes 1,000 shots a day as previously noted and is a beast from behind the arc. She can do it all. She defends well and diagnosis plays very well. But, let’s be honest, she just wants to shoot the three. If you give her even an inch of space, she is most likely going to drain it. Her goal to make 1,000,000 shots in practice before leaving high school seems completely attainable given her love for the gym. Braydin wants to attend medical school someday and recently she has set her sights on the Air Force Academy - as well as all of the other service academies - and would like the opportunity to take a shot at Raimee Beck’s record of 227 three-pointers made in her AFA career. Head Coach Chris Gobrecht and Associate Head Coach Erin Mills-Reid would be well served to get into contact with Russell before the flood of offers come over the next few years. [player_tooltip player_id="197949" first="Jenikka" last="Boone"] | 5-7 G | Liberty | @Jennikka5B2023 After watching Oklahoma PWP play in a recent tournament my only note next to the name [player_tooltip player_id="197949" first="Jenikka" last="Boone"] was "WANTS IT." Sometimes you watch a player several times over the course of a season and they give 100% every game and clearly relish the opportunity to have the ball and go right at defenders. Boone is that player. She stands out on video. She slashes and scores with either hand. She can shoot from seemingly anywhere and requires that the opposing defense focus solely on her. She works hard for her team and that effort is bound to stand out to college coaches as the offers come in over the next few years. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id="197949" first="Jenikka" last="Boone"]. [player_tooltip player_id="197950" first="Ellie" last="Brueggemann"] | 5-6 G | Lincoln Christian | @ecbruegge2023 Ellie is the prototypical guard - and so much more. She defends with a viciousness rarely seen in high school basketball. She makes it her mission to disrupt the play of the opposing team and is very often successful. Her tenacity really stands out on tape. She is an outstanding three-point shooter with a smooth, quick stroke. She has shown some ability to slash inside among the "trees," but is still really developing the ability to finish at the basket. Bruggemann is a D-I player and will only get better over the next few years.
