This was a perfect chance for younger players to be seen and although I have evaluated these six players numerous times, I was extremely pleased with their progression and I always tell parents is you have to find “the right fit” for your child. All that glitter and nonsense I see many do is basically meaningless yet what do I know says the dad of a WNBA player. The next group are players that I hadn’t seen, some will be on the updated 2024 Watch List and those below in the 2024 class will be added
2024
Gwendlyn McGrew Gwendlyn McGrew 6'0" | CG Pasadena Memorial | 2024 State TX -5’11 G/F (Dobie HS)
McGrew has been listed as the Top 2024 player in the state by me since the second game I saw her, I didn’t realize how young she was the first time, I thought she was a freshman in HS yet she will make her presence felt immediately because she can play all five positions, her range is somewhere south of Jupiter and watching her handle the ball and make passes, spin to the basket or just overpower defenders and she has D1 offers on the table
La’Niah Thornton La’Niah Thornton 5'9" | PF Pearland | 2024 State TX -5’8 G (Pearland HS)
Thornton is sort of like a silent assassin as she fills up a stat sheet in the blink of an eye. She’s a double-double waiting to happen, she attacks strongly and finishes with contact but her “creating off the dribble” for the jumper is solid as well as her handling of the ball and making passes to the right people. Her mindset is “you can’t stop me” and it helps when you actually can show it
Madison Bob 5’8 G (Hightower HS)
Bob and her “high flying act” just keeps getting better and as I envision the various pictures of her defying gravity I’ll be taking through her career, her game has definitely taken another leap forward. She’s long and athletic, plays the passing lane, and attacks the basket but her jumper, a legitimate jumper, is hard becoming hard to handle and she showed that against the big girls
Shunteria Davis-5’9 G (Travis HS)
Davis caught my eye last year yet had both wide open at the event and here’s why. She’s poised and under control, she attacks the rim relentlessly from not only a variety of angles but right down the middle and she finishes with contact. She’s strong and powerful, she creates her shot and has a nice mid to long-range game that will keep getting better and her upside is nice
Jade Williams-5’7 G (Huffman HS)
Williams had her “now you see me” party against the older girls and it was good to see her playing freely, well it was good to see her PLAYING because what I saw her do goes back to what I wrote about her in then FIFTH grade, she corrected me it was a year earlier than I remembered her. She’s long and athletic, the energy level is high, plays passing lane and elevates on the jumper as well as attacking the rim
2025
Sarah Gregory-5’6 G
When you have three older sisters that played at the next level and you actually saw two of them a lot, chances are you’re going to make some noise and I’ve been hearing this young lady loud and clear for quite some time. Her BB-IQ is ahead of her years, she understands how to run a team, efficiently and she can score off the dribble or drop the mid to long-range with ease and that’s all great but the icing on the cake, for me, is to see her in the open court and I’m envisioning what’s coming next
