Both grassroots and high school teams were in attendance, leading to some interesting matchups and an overall competitive environment for all involved.
Several prospects showed up and showed out over the weekend. Here are few guards who caught my eye:
Zoe Jackson Zoe Jackson 5'8" | CG Allen | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’7” Point Guard | Allen HS – Jackson is an all-around offensive threat at the one spot. She does a great job of balancing her scoring and distributing responsibilities. The Allen floor general is a nifty ball handler who plays with good pace. She likes to push the tempo but understands when to slow it down. This is a prospect who is going to be able to do whatever is required of her in order to help her team get a win.
Shayna Cook | 2022 | 5’2” Combo Guard | Shoemaker HS – Cook is a scoring guard who can be effective on or off the ball. She has the ability to create her own shot, especially from mid-range. The Shoemaker guard showed that she can knock-down difficult shots from awkward angles, evidenced by some pretty elbow jumpers that she converted despite being fouled. Furthermore, Cook has a knack for finishing in transition with Euro step moves.
Shelomi Sanders | 2022 | 5’7” Shooting Guard | Rockwall Heath HS – Sanders plays with an edge. The 5-foot-7-inch two-guard competes extremely hard at both ends of the floor. She is a superb defender on or away from the ball, displaying good lateral quickness and excellent ball denial when she is guarding opposing teams’ primary ball handler. On offense, Sanders had it going from three-point land, drilling numerous triples from the catch. She is a really solid two-way player.
Jadyn Atchison | 2023 | 6’0” Shooting Guard | Cedar Hill HS – Atchison has great size and length for the two spot. The Cedar Hill sophomore easily glides into the paint with her long strides and elevates over defenders when she gets to the basket. Atchison also possesses a nice-looing jump shot. She likes to stop and pop from inside the arc which keeps defenders honest, allowing her to continue getting downhill toward the hoop. Beyond that, the 6-foot guard contributes on the boards and is a sneaky-good passer.
Sheridan Silvers | 2023 | 5’9” Shooting Guard | Midlothian HS – I was only able to catch the second half of one of her games, but I am glad I did because Miss Silvers made some big-time plays to close out the contest. Down three with less than seven seconds left on the clock, she drained a pull-up three-pointer to force a sudden death overtime. Shortly after, she attacked the basket and earned a trip to the foul line where she ended the game. Silvers was brilliant down the stretch and proved that she has the clutch gene.
Kaelyn Hamilton Kaelyn Hamilton 5'10" | SF McKinney North | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’10” Combo Guard | McKinney North HS – Hamilton is one of those players who is always in attack mode. She seriously never lets up. The McKinney North freshman is super athletic, loves to play fast, and wants to grind down opposing defenses with her relentless effort. Her body control at the rim is solid. She had some good-looking assists as well. The No. 3 ranked prospect in our 2024 Texas Watch List should be able to have an immediate impact during her first year of high school ball.
