With that in mind, here’s a look at the go-to girls in Class A:
Grace Hegerle Grace Hegerle 5'10" | PF Jamestown | 2021 State ND , Jamestown
Hegerle led the WDA in scoring last season, averaging better than 17 points per game while converting on 50 percent of her field goal attempts. She left points on the board too, as her free throw percentage was just 59 percent. She’ll have the green light as a senior and a ton of responsibility to generate consistent offense for a team that will be working in a big crop of new players. Expect her to put up huge numbers.
Sydney Gustavsson Sydney Gustavsson 5'7" | CG Mandan | 2021 State ND , Mandan
Gustavsson took her game to another level as a junior, going from a complementary piece to legit co-star for the Braves, averaging 14 points and five rebounds while knocking down 36 percent of her 3-pointers. The next step will be for her to ascend into the go-to role for a Mandan team that will need a lot of players to improve offensively. Gustavsson has the skills to put up big numbers though. She’s a strong perimeter shooter, a quality decision-maker and has the strength to play through contact and get to the paint.
Arianna Berryhill Arianna Berryhill 5'10" | CG Bismarck Legacy | 2021 State ND , Bismarck Legacy
Berryhill’s been one of the best two-way guards in the WDA the last two years and while her defense will have to continue to be strong as a senior, her ability to drive quality offense will be the deciding factor in just how good Bismarck Legacy can be this winter. The senior point guard averaged better than 12 points per game last season despite shooting just 34 percent from the field and 32 percent from the 3-point line. She was excellent from the free throw line though. She’ll have the ball in her hands a lot as a senior, and tasked with creating her own shot and shots for others as a senior. If she can take a step forward, the Sabers can contend.
Jaidyn Feist, West Fargo Sheyenne
Feist averaged 14 points and nine rebounds per game last year, helping the Mustangs remain competitive in a top-heavy EDC. She’s one of the most efficient players in the league, and combines great length and athleticism with skill and soft touch plus a motor that runs hot. The EDC has a number of highly talented forwards littered throughout the league – but Feist is among the best of them.
Adie Wagner Adie Wagner 5'7" | CG Fargo South | 2022 State ND , Fargo South
Wagner has been playing varsity basketball for four years already and has put up huge scoring numbers over the last two years specifically. She’ll likely be among the scoring leaders in the EDC as a junior. The big next step for her to take is with her efficiency, as she’s struggled to shoot a high percentage. Some of that is the attention she gets from opposing defenses, as she’s far and away Fargo South’s best offensive player. Either way, she’ll have the ball in her hands a ton this winter, and she’ll have the ultimate green light.
