With that in mind, here’s a look at the top duos in Class A:
Fargo Davies: Ryleigh Wacha Ryleigh Wacha 5'10" | CG Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND and Taylor Fey Taylor Fey 6'0" | PF Fargo Davies | 2021 State ND
The Eagles have the look of a title contender this season and the duo of Wacha and Fey is as good a starting point as any team’s got. Wacha stuffed the stat sheet last year, averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists while Fey averaged 15 points and nine rebounds. Both players are multi-year starters and were all-state caliber players a year ago. Expect big things from both this winter.
Bismarck Century: Julia Fitterer Julia Fitterer 5'10" | SF Bismarck Century | 2021 State ND and Logan Nissley Logan Nissley 6'0" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND
Bismarck Century was one of the five best teams in the state last season and returns a majority of its core including two of the favorites to contend for the Player-of-the-Year award in Fitterer and Nissley. Fitterer averaged better than 13 points per game and knocked down 40 percent of her 3-pointers as a junior while Nissley averaged better than 13 points, eight rebounds and led the team in blocks. The Patriots will be ranked atop the Class A polls next year – a lot of the hype is because of Fitterer and Nissley.
Bismarck Legacy: Arianna Berryhill Arianna Berryhill 5'10" | CG Bismarck Legacy | 2021 State ND and Jaiden Baker Jaiden Baker 5'9" | SG Bismarck Legacy | 2021 State ND
The Sabers have been one of the best teams in the state in recent years and if they are going to keep contending in the WDA and at the highest level, it’ll be on Berryhill and Baker to lead the way. Berryhill is a multi-year starter at the point and was one of the best two-way players in the WDA last season while Baker emerged as a solid third option scorer. Both players can improve their efficiency numbers – if they do, expect the Sabers to be in the mix at the top of the WDA.
Jamestown: Grace Hegerle Grace Hegerle 5'10" | PF Jamestown | 2021 State ND and Ella Falk Ella Falk 5'10" | SG Jamestown | 2023 State ND
The Bluejays were one of the more puzzling teams a year ago, looking like a contender in the WDA on some nights, and thoroughly outclassed on others. They will head into this year with some big questions after their top two players, but their top two players are awfully good. Hegerle led the WDA in scoring last year, averaging 17 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. And Falk was one of the top freshmen, averaging 10 points, six rebounds and nearly five assists. Those two will have even more opportunity to put up even bigger numbers this winter.
Devils Lake: Jailyn Martinson Jailyn Martinson 5'9" | SF Devils Lake | 2021 State ND and Ramsey Brown Ramsey Brown 5'10" | CG Devils Lake | 2021 State ND
Devils Lake is coming off two straight seasons in which it has reached the state championship game and while the Firebirds are losing a big chunk of their perimeter core, the duo of Martinson and Brown will give them a chance to contend in the EDC and beyond. Martinson should be one of the favorites to contend for the Player-of-the-Year honors in the league and Brown is a multi-year starter who has averaged double figures the last two seasons.
