With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the improved teams in Class B:
Linton/HMB
The Lions were ranked early last season and looked like a contender in Region 3 before fizzling a bit down the stretch. That was due in large part to an injury sustained to the team’s best player, Erica Umber. If she’s back at full strength, the Lions are returning three all-region caliber players and four multi-year starters including Jaycee Richter Jaycee Richter 5'6" | PG Linton/HMB | 2022 State ND and Teegan Scherr. Linton/HMB won 15 games last year – don’t be surprised if that number is around 20 this winter.
Dunseith
The Dragons won 14 games last year, making a solid run in the Region 4 tournament before losing in nip-and-tuck fashion against Four Winds. The region is loaded next season and Dunseith should be viewed as a threat to anybody given they’ve got arguably the best individual player in the region in Rozalind Strong Rozalind Strong 5'8" | CG Dunseith | 2022 State ND . The 5-foot-10 junior guard averaged better than 21 points, five rebounds and three assists. They also return a double-double machine in junior center Brailyn Davis Brailyn Davis 6'0" | PF Dunseith | 2022 State ND , who averaged 13 points and nearly 14 rebounds per game.
Wilton-Wing
The Miners won 14 games last year but should be viewed as a legitimate threat in Region 5. They are deep. They are experienced. They have all-region caliber players including Hailey Quam Hailey Quam 5'11" | SF Shiloh Christian | 2023 State ND , Kiara Johnson and Kalyssa Schock. They don’t have a ton of size, but their depth allows them to play harassing defense up and down the floor. If the Miners can get a little more consistent on the offensive end of the floor, they’ve got the component pieces to contend for a state title berth.
