With that in mind, here’s a look at the top duos in Class B:
Kindred: Abby Duchscherer Abby Duchscherer 6'1" | CG Kindred | 2022 State ND and Terryn Johnson Terryn Johnson 6'1" | C Kindred | 2022 State ND
The Vikings are the only team returning two all-state players, which is why they’ll be on the short list of legitimate state title contenders. Duchscherer is the best player in the state and the best prospect regardless of age – and she’s just now entering her upperclass years. Johnson is a double-double machine inside and one of the best centers in the state – and also entering her junior year. Those two are going to produce at a high level and give Kindred a chance to win every game.
Dunseith: Rozalind Strong Rozalind Strong 5'8" | CG Dunseith | 2022 State ND and Brailyn Davis Brailyn Davis 6'0" | PF Dunseith | 2022 State ND
Dunseith won 14 games a year ago and should be viewed as a darkhorse threat in Region 4 thanks to Strong and Davis. As sophomores, Strong averaged 21 points, nearly six rebounds and four assists per game while showcasing three-level scoring ability, and Davis averaged better than 13 points and nearly 14 rebounds while anchoring a solid defense. If those two continue to ascend, the Dragons are going to be tough for just about everybody.
Trenton: Alyssa St. Pierre and Jacee Turcotte
Trenton is going to have to undergo a bit of an identity shift as the Tigers lost their all-state superstar point guard from last season. But the duo of St. Pierre and Turcotte is good enough to keep them in the mix to contend at the top of Region 8. St. Pierre has scored more than 1,500 points in her career and averaged better than 14 points per game last year in a co-starring role while Turcotte averaged better than 10 points and eight rebounds and averaged a double-double in the region tournament. Don’t be surprised if she takes a big leap and puts up 16-20 points and 10-plus rebounds a game.
Hettinger/Scranton: Sam Oase and Bailee Pierce Bailee Pierce 5'7" | CG Hettinger-Scranton | 2022 State ND
The Night Hawks won a second straight Region 7 championship last season and while three-peating is going to be a huge challenge due to the strength of the region this winter, the duo of Oase and Pierce gives them a chance. Oase is arguably the best center in the state and a two-time all-state selection. She’s a double-double machine and a two-way force inside. Pierce averaged 10 points per game and emerged as a rock-solid two-way perimeter player. She’ll have to take on more responsibility as a shot-creator and scorer, but she’s got the talent to do so.
