It’s never too early for too-early-season. With fall sports and school underway, it’s only a matter of time before the winter sports season is upon us.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards in Region 3
Erica Umber, Linton/HMB
Umber is one of the best overall players in the region and earned all-region honors after averaging 14 points and eight rebounds in a little over half a season last year before going down with an injury. If she’s back at full strength this winter, Linton/HMB is the likely favorite in Region 3. She averaged nearly 17 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore and her ability to produce consistently makes her a nightmare for a lot of people to guard.
[player_tooltip player_id="98710" first="Hannah" last="Hagel"], Carrington
Carrington was an upperclass heavy lineup last year with Hagel as one of the non-seniors earning big minutes. She’s a capable interior scorer who combines a soft shooting touch with the athleticism and skill to create her own offense. The Cardinals will be breaking in a solid batch of newcomers this winter - which means they’ll lean on Hagel to produce on a nightly basis.
[player_tooltip player_id="199895" first="Sadie" last="Hansen"], Oakes
Hansen’s just been rock-solid for the Tornadoes since she stepped onto the varsity court as an eighth-grader. She’s averaged 14-16 points and 7-9 rebounds each of the last three years and is not only productive, but efficient. Oakes is graduating two double-figure scorers from last season’s team, so things are going to run through Hansen more than ever in her senior year - expect big numbers.
[player_tooltip player_id="100438" first="Kennedy" last="Harter"], Kidder County
Harter was an all-region player in her freshman season and teams nicely with [player_tooltip player_id="98728" first="Madelyn" last="Schmidt"] to form a potentially deadly one-two punch for the Wolves. She’s an effective finisher in traffic, she’s got solid shooting range and a soft touch, and she’s improving when it comes to creating her own shot off the dribble. Don’t be surprised if she makes a big jump in her third year as a major minute-getter at the varsity level.
Emily St. Aubin, South Border
St. Aubin is an excellent complementary player for South Border, providing double-double production each of the last two years. She’s a solid scorer inside and does a good job without requiring a lot of touches on the offensive end. And her ability to influence the game on the defensive end of the floor is a reason the Mustangs are competitive in a tough region.
