Standout guard [player_tooltip player_id="106867" first="Ja’Mya" last="Powell-Smith"] of North Kansas City has given a verbal commitment to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ this weekend. The 5’7" Powell-Smith made her announcement on her twitter account on Saturday.
An outstanding point guard with tremendous offensive ability, Powell-Smith was one of top scorers in the Kansas City area as a junior. Last season, she averaged 21.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and four steals a game. She scored more than 25 points on eight occasions and topped the 30-point mark five times during her stellar junior season.
Powell-Smith has been playing with the KC Dream Running Angels 17U squad during the summer.

Another Kansas City area standout who has made her collegiate intentions known was 2021 guard [player_tooltip player_id="194128" first="Emma" last="Perry"] of Liberty North, who gave a verbal commitment to Southwest Baptist. The 5’8" Perry is one of the top 3-point shooting threats in the state.
As a junior, Perry averaged 9.3 points and 2.7 rebounds while making a team-high 56 3-pointers on the season. She spent her summer playing for KC Running Angels 17U squad.
