Rebounding is one of the key stats to keep track of in the game of basketball. Teams that win the rebounding battle typically have a strong chance to win. There were some incredible rebounders in New Jersey in the 2019-20 season, and a lot of them will be returning. Let’s take a look at some rebounders you need to watch once the new season tips off.
<strong>Anisha Able, Barringer, Jr.</strong> – Able was a rebounding machine last year as a sophomore, totaling an incredible 347 rebounds in 19 games – an average of 18.3 boards per game. She hit double-digit rebounds in 18 games, with her season-best at 26 in a win over West Side this past January. Able is a double-double machine, and she can beat you in so many ways with her aggressive style of play. Expect more of the same as she enters her junior season.
<strong>Diamonique Williams, Shabazz, Sr.</strong> – Like Able, Williams attacked the glass at will last season. She accumulated 311 rebounds in 20 games for an average of 15.6 rebounds per game. Her season-best performance came against Irvington after she came down with 25 boards. She reached double-digit rebounds 19 times, and 20 or more rebounds five times. Williams will now look to make the most of her senior year with Shabazz.
<strong>Riley Feichtl, Sussex Tech, Jr.</strong> – Feichtl’s sophomore season at Sussex Tech went extremely well in the rebounding category. She came down with 328 in 25 games for 13.1 a game. Feichtl recorded 11 double-doubles on the year, and reached double-digit rebounding performances 19 times.
<strong>Janai Hawley, Leonia, Jr.</strong> – Hawley had a monster sophomore year for Leonia, finishing with 350 rebounds in 27 games for 13 a game, which was 10th in the state last year. Hawley reached was an extremely consistent rebounder, coming down with 10 or more 25 times. She finished with 14 double-doubles as a sophomore. Hawley will look to keep it going as she enters her junior campaign.
<strong>Jermyra Bowman-Bethea, LEAP Academy, So.</strong> – It’s not common for a freshman to come on and put up the numbers Bowman-Bethea did last season. She totaled 320 rebounds in 25 games for 12.8 per game. She reached double-digit rebounds in every game but three, and her season-best was a 19-rebound performance in a win over STEM Civics.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159446" first="Kaelonn" last="Wilson"], Piscataway, Sr.</strong> – Wilson averaged 12.4 rebounds per game in a strong junior season for Piscataway. She was dominant on the boards in 26 games. Her season-high was 22 against North Hunterdon in early January. Wilson does a lot of things well including scoring and blocking shots, but her rebounding is something to watch.
