Some due to improved play since the end of the high school season and some due to an oversight on our parts in the previous rankings. Here is a closer look at the players who have seen their stock rising post-grassroots season.
Jordyn Turner Jordyn Turner 6'2" | PF Casady | 2021 State OK | 6-2 PF | Casady | @jordynturner34 | No. 11 Overall, No. 4 Power Forward
Turner has tremendous size and uses her body very well in the post. She also slides out to the small forward position often and can handle the ball extremely well; not just for someone her size, she handles the ball well for any player. She is a bit of a unicorn in that way. You just don’t see many people with her great size that also has that much athletic ability and handles. She has a very nice jumper and is an outstanding defender. Turner has recently narrowed down her offers to Eastern Michigan, Morgan State, Southern Nazarene and UTEP. Any of these four schools would be blessed to have such an outstanding all-around player.
Kennedi Grant Kennedi Grant 5'8" | CG Midwest City | 2021 State OK | 5-8 SF | Midwest City | @askaboutkenn | No. 12 Overall, No. 4 Small Forward
Grant has been overlooked in the past. She was not on our previous rankings. She doesn’t have a ton of views on Hudl. What she does have is a game that stands out anytime she is in the gym and abilities that put her near the top of the list. Grant attacks the rim like she is angry at it. She goes hard – all game long. She plays a guard/forward hybrid and can shoot or slash. She also is an absolutely ferocious defender. Kennedi has a nose for the ball is always around the play. She is a handful for defenders due to her absolutely insane handles. Grant already holds offers from Eastern Michigan, Nebraska-Omaha, Grambling and Alabama A&M – with many more sure to come.
Kaylen Nelson Kaylen Nelson 5'11" | SG Union | 2021 State OK | 5-11 SG | Tulsa Union | @nelson_kaylen21 | No. 15 Overall, No. 3 Shooting Guard
Kaylen was already big for a shooting guard during the high school season. When I saw her during the grassroots season this summer, my first thought was “dang, she’s been hitting the gym hard.” Nelson looked stronger and more physical and played three different positions for her Shock team. She was an absolute force inside, using her new found super-strength to get position in the post seemingly at will. She still has tremendous touch around the basket and more than anything she has the desire. She goes hard the entire game and never relents on the offensive or defensive end. Nelson recently committed to Old Dominion where she will play for two-time gold medalist and two-time WNBA champion DeLisha Milton-Jones.
