Shayla Dede Shayla Dede 5'7" | PF Taft | 2021 State TX 5’7 PG/SG (SA Taft HS) San Antonio Lady Hoops 2021
Dede truly popped out at the party with a variety of moves to create her shot while being pressure. Her athleticism played a major role in that as she slices by defenders with a deceptive first step, she mixes it up with the pull-up, step back or stop and pop jumpers but she makes things happen in so many ways that sets up opportunities for her teammates as well
Maiyah Watkins 5’8 SG/SF (Marcus HS) HG Elite Jenn
Watkins attacked the basket so hard that I felt it and when you throw in her body control, I counted at least five acrobatic finishes in one game, after contact what else did I need to see. The stop and pop jumper, the crossover in the open court or better yet, a nice change of pace going one on one but her energy stayed the same as she found ways to put the ball in the basket
Sierra Copeland-6’3 PF/C (Howe HS) Lone Star Magic
Copeland was relatively unknown to me which tells you about how big Texas is and at 75 inches, she’s way over the magic number” yet with all of that being said, she still showed me even more magic with the Magic. She plays the passing lane, she’s long and athletic so that combination is one I love to see yet she can put it on the floor and attack to rim, not to mention good timing on defense to black shots, plus she rebounds on both ends
Carolyn Washington-5’3 PG (Cedar Hill HS) Team Lex Loaded
Washington was one of the most explosive 6th graders I have seen and when I say explosive, I mean under control attacking the basket. Over the years, the boom has gotten louder and she’s not only fast, but fast with the ball and with her being able to pass and dish, even under pressure or shoot the mid to long range, what else could you ask for. How about she mans up with the best of the baseline to baseline
Mia Topping-5’8 PG/SG (Timber Creek HS) Texas Lone Star Blue 17U 3SSB
Topping has always been a “must see” for me since elementary school and I’ve always loved her poise, even at a young age, that as well as her BB-IQ just stood out. She always has been able to run a team, she makes the right passes to the right people and that first step was her go to for a long time but she’s added the mid to long range which she can create with ease under pressure
Ashley Ngene-6’0 (Tompkins HS) Houston Skyrise Elite Edmond
Ngene is powerful in the paint and at 100% she has created some problems all club season. Strong body, good agility and loves to create contact going to the basket and she finishes strongly after the lick. She’s mobile enough to defend outside the paint yet her sheer strength inside the paint is rather impressive as well as her rebounding on both ends of the floor
Jada Mangum-5’5 G (Harlan HS) San Antonio Lady Hoops 2021
Mangum does a very good job of not only creating her shot but knocking it down after and the thing about her is that she rises to the occasion even more when the pressure is on. I can’t tell you how many times she passed by me at events and I just said “how many” and she raises up 5 or 6 fingers and the how many as in long balls but I caught her at least 3 times dropping game winners at buzzer this season
