The Dons are looking for their first winning season since 2015-16, as they have just four total victories over the past two years. Eight of the nine players on the roster from a season ago return including leading scorer Jenna Brown. The senior posted 204 points with 138 rebounds, knocking down a dozen three-pointers. Brown, Brooke Zoll and Julia Thiry all had over 20 steals for Don Bosco.

Last year, West Des Moines Dowling finished as the highest-scoring team in Class 5A, posting almost 73 points a night. The Maroons went 19-4 before a stunning setback in a regional championship to Sioux City East. Now, Dowling moves on from the [player_tooltip player_id="13708" first="Caitlin" last="Clark"]-era, as the current University of Iowa Hawkeye led the team in scoring and rebounding last year. [player_tooltip player_id="164973" first="Ella" last="McVey"] and [player_tooltip player_id="129046" first="Emma" last="Gipple"] each scored 19 and 22 games a season ago, along with a handful of others getting into the starting lineup and on the court.

Dubuque Hempstead has had a strong run among the giants of Class 5A, winning at least 10 games in each of the past four seasons and in seven of the last eight overall. Senior Morgan Hawkins returns after recording a team-high 155 rebounds a year ago. Hawkins also scored 160 points with classmate Corinne Meier adding 185 with 108 boards and 28 made three-pointers.
